About this House

PRICE ADJUSTMENT. Mt. Hope is an historic home located at Broad Run, Fauquier County, Va. The house was built in four periods from the early 19th century to early 20th centuries. The main dwelling is a 2.5 story, three bay frame dwelling on a stone foundation in the Greek Revival style. It features a double story porch with a hipped roof and square wooden columns. Also on the 10 acre property are the hillside bank barn, a long machine shed, a smoke house, and a spring house dating from the 19th century, and early 20th century. A stone wall surrounded Hunton Family cemetery is located on the west side of the property. Mt. Hope was listed on the National Registry in 2006.

The barn is large, has a new roof and can accommodate cattle or horses at its lower level. On the west side garden area is a swimming pool in good shape.

The 10 acre property has 2 additional buildings that are available for owner's family use or rental income. One is a charming one-bedroom log cabin just off the parking area. The second is near the front of the property and is a cedar-sided 2 bedroom, 2 bath cottage designed by the current owner. It has a spacious front porch and a classic stone chimney with fireplace.

Situated on farmland in continuous use for over 200 years, Mt. Hope is significant for its association with the development of agriculture in eastern Fauquier county, and as a well-preserved Greek Revival-style dwelling. The property is well situated, approximately 2 miles from Rte. US 29, and approximately 7 miles to Rt. 55 and I-66. That puts Dulles Airport approximately 1 hr. away, depending on traffic. The Capitol Beltway (I-495) is approximately 35 miles away and I hour in driving time, non-rush hour.
On-Line research shows highspeed Infinity (Comcast) cable available on Georgetown Road.

After sale and settlement , the owner will likley request a short term rent-back of the cottage. Yard maintenance equipment (i.e. tractor-mower, etc.) may be available to buyer for sale separate from home and property.
