"Rural community. No public transit outside of downtown. Safe and friendly community. Service providers (internet, cell, propane, etc) are extremely responsive. Touristy downtown, but this does not lead to the feeling of transient visitors who do not treat the area well. Excellent for outdoor adventures!"
    • Ddegroff
"This is a quiet, friendly patriotic neighborhood. Lots of small family owned shops, great restaurants."
    • Linda C.
"Mix of full time and part time owners. Rentals are popular. Views are amazing. Paved roads and underground utilities "
    • Mszlira
"Neighbors help neighbors in need. Privacy is still respected. Country charm and southern living without the stress of the city and the crime that comes with the higher populations. "
    • Ddegroff
"We have Christmas in July, Art Walks, Bands, local farmers markets great food, wonderful local movie theatre."
    • Chris155987
"Christmas in July is one of the most popular but it has now turned more for tourists. We also have our thanksgiving/Christmas parade in November! "
    • Rnfernandez
"Easy commute. Has a great downtown. It is a very adorable town with a great park library and has nice atmosphere "
    • Pamelapurvis85
"Fast pace drivers who do not look out for anything. If youโ€™re pet is in or near the road you stand a good chance of losing him or it gets hurt bad"
    • Shayleerock
"Dog owners would like that there is two parks in Ashe, there are several areas to go hiking, most people have dogs and we have two dog friendly restaurants. The bad sides are that due to irresponsible owners other dogs are allowed to run around some areas of Ashe and have killed other dogs, and if your dog happens to run loose or gets put then they may get shot if they go on the wrong property. Dog theft has been a big issue lately. Not many rentals allow dogs."
    • Conniehansel
"I live on a Golf course. Very beautiful views. Quiet neighborhood. Nice neighbors. Convenient location."
    • Laurie
"Downtown West Jefferson truly experiences all 4 seasons. In winter you can get those deep, beautiful snowstorms you dream about as a kid. The summers are mild and pleasant for any outdoor activities you can think of. Fall is ablaze with foliage colors that are a photographers dream. In spring there are native Rhododendrons in bloom everywhere. There are so many restaurants to choose from in the immediate downtown area, and you can watch Cheese being made at NC's only cheese making facility. In town there is a quaint park for tennis, basketball, little league ball fields, and ample play space. There are several art galleries located right downtown ! Parkway movie theater in Downtown West Jefferson plays first run movies on two screens for a fraction of what other theaters charge. The Blue Ridge Parkway and hiking trails are only short drives away. This area is full of local artisans and talent which is on full display each July with the "Christmas in July festival". An event enjoyed by children of all ages , and complete with live music on two stages. We really love the NC Mountains & can't say enough good things about West Jefferson & the NC High Country...... Did I mention that Boone & Appalachian State University are just a short drive away ?"
