My child is in her 5th year attending Magazine Elementary School. She has attended this school since midway through her first year of PreK. The entire experience has always been overwhelmingly positive. Each teacher has enriched my daughter's life in one way or another. My daughter needs additional therapies, & frequently takes longer with assignments & tests than other students. Almost every one of her teachers have been very open & receptive to communication. Her teachers & I have been able to work together to ensure that she is on task & getting the help that she needs to enrich her overall life skills. In PreK I learned that my daughter needed speech therapy (which the school offers) & this knowledge has allowed for advancement not only in academic settings, but in overall social settings as well. In kindergarten we learned that she has ADHD (thanks in part to the teachers soft suggestions to see her pediatrician) when she was unable to complete simple tasks. This diagnosis enabled us to restructure her learning environment to accommodate her needs. In turn, this allowed us to reinforce her knowledge that she is brilliant & silence any doubts that she isn't intelligent or can't conquer her goals. We're recently learning that she struggles with dyslexia, which has made learning to read, write, & spell more difficult. With extra attention & a deeper focus we've been able to zone into the areas she struggles most, until she masters them. The school has offered additional therapies for each barrier we have encountered & because of this, she has been able to settle in with her peers. The school encourages social skills by ensuring that she is not removed from the class setting any more than absolutely necessary for additional help. They have created a perfect balance of not only help, but encouragement of her use of her OWN critical thinking skills that has completely boosted her self confidence, & helped her flourish everyday. Because of this, she has blossomed into a resilient, empowered & enabled young lady! There have been staff members that we didn't care for, but despite the small bumps in the road I am proud to say I believe this school has been one of the best things, if not the best, for our child. We are ecstatic that our other children will also become a part of this amazing school district. One that so clearly cares for each of their pupil's wellbeing, not just test scores. Hands down, I have, & will continue to recommend MES. RATTLER PRIDE!!!!!
