7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageReview for John J. Pershing 220:Unfortunately, my experience at John J. Pershing 220 has been far from positive. One major issue that stands out is the front door lady. From the very first interaction, she was incredibly rude and unhelpful. Instead of offering a warm welcome or assistance, her dismissive attitude made me feel unwelcome every time I entered the school. It's hard to understand why someone with such a poor attitude is in charge of the front desk, as it creates a bad first impression for anyone coming through the door.On a more positive note, the basketball coach is outstanding. He’s genuinely committed to his players’ success both on and off the court. His passion for coaching is evident, and he creates an environment where students feel motivated and supported. The coach is truly one of the few highlights of my time at this school. However, the lack of care from many of the teaching staff is a serious issue. Several teachers seem disinterested in their jobs, and it’s clear they aren’t putting in the effort needed to engage with students. The lack of passion from some educators makes it harder for students to connect with the material and find inspiration in their studies.Additionally, there seems to be a prevailing bias in certain areas of the school. Whether in the classroom or during extracurricular activities, it's noticeable that some students receive preferential treatment, which creates an uncomfortable and unfair atmosphere for others. In conclusion, while the basketball coach is a bright spot at John J. Pershing 220, the front door lady’s behavior and the lack of dedication from several teachers really drag down the overall experience. It’s disappointing that a school with potential is being held back by these issues.Other Review1y ago15 Reviews - Ps 69 Vincent D Grippo School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSome teachers would make fun of their students. For example, one 4th-grade student lost a tooth during library time and told their teacher, saying, “I lost my teeth.” Instead of responding appropriately, the teacher burst out laughing and practically threw herself off her chair — and this was just a young kid!Another instance involved a 1st-grade teacher who mocked an Asian student for what they wore to school and made comments about it out loud while talking to other teachers.Overall, many of the teachers were just awful.Parent Review10mo ago6 Reviews - Check out schools near 5724 7th Ave #2.

"I’ve lived in this neighborhood my whole life and it’s home. So many places to go to everything is so conveniently located it can be loud at times but loud with music and people just being happy yes there is the occasional drunk but they don’t really bother. Sunset park is a fusion of many cultures and amazing foods. We are proud of our neighborhood sunset park."

"Too much noise all around everywhere. Noisy neighbors inside and out of the buildings, drunk people often passed out on the street. People severely lacking civic pride for a neighborhood that has so much natural beauty and potential to be better"

"The community is diversified and transient. It could be better if neighbors would work together to keep the area clean and clutter free. Ie not hanging food products or laundry in the front of their homes creating poor curb appeal. "

"It’s a very “pet” dense neighborhood. I even see cats on leashes at times haha Too bad there isn’t a designated dog park or area here so that the fur babies have room to run. Such a shame since there are so many dogs."

"There’s always events in the the park near by and fifth ave events when the summer is here. Even the festivals we have are welcoming. I would say the best thing about my neighborhood is the block parties in different blocks. "

"This place used to be horrible and it’s gotten better over the years. The neighborhood is very lively and can be overwhelming for some, because they might have to deal with loud neighbors or loud music playing outside late summer nights. The schools in the area are actually not bad. "
