The kids are rude and mean. The school is in shambles. One of my teachers mocked me for wanting water and a cromebook for work after someone broke my computer after I was sick for a day.the crombooks broke all the time and people stole them a lot. When I was there a kid ripped down a sink for the school.The only good teacher was Mr smith (band director)This school made me stressed and depressed and I hope other people have a better time then meThere was rats and cockroaches everywhere and my chicken was pink and cold and made me feel sick. Speaking of sick it’s the only school that makes me feel sick every time I enter….overall…it was fun because of the friends I made…everything else was just dreadful.

The principal and teachers/staff provide structure for the students, but are the students acknowledge. What brings us to question and just amazes us as a parent(s) is minority students/students are not acknowledge.This review is in behalf parents whom have students whom give there all and are not acknowledge regardless of being a A/B student. My family and I was extremely shocked when our child and other parents discuss to us of their children that attend Hillside the ignorant rewards given to their children.Other parents and us were just extremely baffled in rewards like humming in class, etc... and a chocolate bar to go along with that award. Our child was sadden with no acknowledgement of being a A/B student. Our child informed that he does not hmmm in class that it was the student behind him.Other students whom are A/B students as well received ignorant rewards as well. Are the teachers aware of their students? Are they open minded to grasp and acknowledge students whom already have potential and/or can reach for more? Is it only based on behavior or "she/he said?" Are the students just being judged without being given the opportunity of seeing the students potential.In this new coming year of 2015-2016, will Hillside provide a newer advance structure curriculum? Will students be acknowledge or just misjudge?We have comfort with Hillside to a certain extent but we question will there be more positive changes. Hillside...we are still rooting for you...please make changes...

The good stuff: the teachers are amazing some are a little strict but that's ok because they are also very good at getting a few of the kids to engage in the learning material of the class. Mr. Forish the Into to Animation/Photoshop and adv Photoshop is one of the best in the school. Mrs. Hanks the resource teacher is a good teacher if you get to have her. She helps with your classes and gives good help. Now the bad stuff: Mobile data forget about it, wifi also forget about it. There is some bullying in the school but the deans will somewhat try and help. The school does have a vaping problem, some students go to school smelling and acting like they are high. The students do tend to disrespect the teachers over small things like cellphone use. I would recommend this school as a lot of the teachers are nice.

The oldest comment on this list can't be further from the truth. I have had one child go through this school several years ago, and currently have another child in this school. While it is indeed an old building, the staff of this school could not possibly be more supportive of their students, or more caring. The teachers go well above and beyond their responsibilities with clubs like "Book Talk", etc. The principal takes ALL concerns very seriously, and I could not be more pleased with her. My older son had some social adjustment difficulties when he was younger, and he received all of the assistance necessary to become a well adjusted young man, who was a high honors student athlete throughout middle school and high school. I directly attribute his success to the principal and staff of Sale3m School. My child who is currently in Salem is given many challenges beyond the classroom, in order to help develop his individual talents. Great school.
