Bullying is a serious problem here, but the district refuses to do anything meaningful about it. Teacher retention is a problem, both due to a poor environment and the firing of good teachers. Punishment is dealt inconsistently, arbitrarily, and overly harshly. For instance, there are no detentions for minor infractions, the first level of punishment is in-school suspension because the principal says she doesn't have time to supervise them. ISS is often full. Students often don't understand why they are punished. The Arts programs are dying, and no support is being given to them to keep them alive. They often undermine parents' authority and wishes, and communication about issues with the kids is non-existent to where they often refuse to report problems with kids to the parents, but would rather report to state agencies. This once vibrant, thriving school has changed so much for the worst under the part-time superintendant Mary Ellen Welshon and principal Carey Fose. They need to be removed before this school is permanently damaged if it isn't already too late.
