Description

This is that house you've always wished would come on the market! The Jonathan Dole House is a quintessential New England 1680 Saltbox located on historic Ring's Island, just across the Merrimack River from downtown Newburyport. Uncompromising attention to detail has been given by the current owner in preserving and restoring this home. Architectural features include original wide pine floors, gunstock corner posts, paneling, 5 fireplaces, wooden gutters and wood shingled roof. Two outbuildings grace the manicured grounds including established gardens, natural stone outcroppings and rock walls. This first period home is sited in the center of this former fishing village. Stroll down to the water's edge in the evenings or take advantage of two marinas, public boat launch and several waterfront bistros. A rare opportunity for the discerning buyer to own a truly unique home. Of note, American Poetess Edna St. Vincent Millay lived in this home.
This property is off market, which means it's not currently listed for sale or rent on Trulia. This may be different from what's available on other websites or public sources.

  • Giovanalippi
"This is nature paradise! The neighborhood is safe and laid back. Not a high end neighborhood for sure, but friendly and cozy. Located in the estuary of Merrimac River and the Atlantic Ocean. "
  • Nicholsonkaryn
"Not good for dogs with summer traffic and dogs not allowed on beach between April And October. There are no grassy areas as houses are too close together"
  • Rob P.

"great space, quiet, Woody, near beaches. hiking trail, farms. the type of area I like to live at..................... "
  • Ellenking
"People who live here love the beauty and relaxation of the ocean. In two months of the year it is bustling with the excitement of summer. The rest of the year it is most relaxing. Neighbors say hi to each other. The SBBA Salisbury Beach Betterment Assoc. Holds regular events and conducts activities to improve the area. "
  • Nancy M.
"Friendly neighborhood and a dead end street. We have a permitted party every 4th of July, and roast a 50 pound pig. We are like one big big family."
  • Chriselie
"I’m on the ocean. No mosquitos cuz there’s no trees. Everyone knows everyone in my neighborhood. Traffic is seasonal. "
  • Nancy M.
"I love living just 2 blocks from the ocean, wonderful neighborhood, kids shovel the snow. My street dead ends in the sand of the State Park. Always 10 to 15 degrees cooler than downtown. I can feel the evening breezes, and smell the fresh tide in the A M."
  • galadriel0407
"Lots of shopping with the NH border close by. Great highway access, you can get anywhere from here. Nice school, quite a few parks, state land, and of course the Salisbury Beach reservation! Trail projects in progress. MUST OWN A CAR! There are not many sidewalks, and with some high speed roads I would not consider it safe to walk around town on the streets. Beach traffic can be a pain seasonally, but once you know how to time your drives, it is easily avoidable. I would say that there are quite a few job opportunities if not in this town per say, then certainly in the adjacent towns. It is pronounced Saalsbury, not Sal-is-bury! :)"
  • Emily B.
"excellent family neighborhood, near 95, rte 1, shopping beaches, restaurants, entertainment, has it all."
