The amount of ableism I received at this school is unparalleled. Before I was formally diagnosed with ADHD and autism, I was constantly bullied and disciplined by students and teachers alike for the way my brain functioned. One student went as far as to physically and verbally threaten me, and the history of the mind teacher accused me of diagnosing myself with autism. In fact, they taught several outdated reasons for "how autism develops". I went to the alternative school because it was framed as better for neurodivergent people, only for it to be 90% online with the only goal being for us to all graduate. This led me to making the difficult decision to transfer my senior year. Within the six months I've been at my new school, I have received more kindness than I received in eight years at Elk Rapids. For the first time, I am getting my 504 followed. If you have any form of mental disability, please look elsewhere.

I have absolutely loved having my children at Cherryland Middle School!

First off, I want to say that the principle is astonishingly great with my child. He is calm and collective, and seems to be the person to take her out of whatever she is feeling and ground her. This is appreciated more than words can say.I think I got off on a bad start with the receptionist. Find them to be very short sentenced, they seem impatient and a little bit stuck up, or snooty, but maybe I'm looking to much into it. The very first day my daughter was at this school in a new city. She was released to someone after school. That I did not know about. When I got there and they told me she was not there, I panicked. I may have gotten a little loud, a little upset and a little emotional when I asked, where is she. The response, I first got was, I don't know. After a couple of minutes, they figured out who came to pick her up.I did leave the building a very unhappy parent on first day of school in a new school.Remind app: I want to start off by saying that a text message in any form can be taken with any tone that you're choosing to see it. I know this. I frequently get messages from my daughter's teacher that are extremely rude and unappreciated.Parent teacher conferences: i already have an issue the attitude and rudeness of the teacher that my daughter has. My daughter transferred midway through the school year. They are on an entirely different curriculum than her old school. I thought that it was very rude that the teacher seem to be making jabs at my daughter and how she chooses to learn. For instance she insinuated that my daughter counting on her fingers to solve a problem was laughable and above her school grade. I thought it was incredibly insensitive. I heard a lot about what was missing, but nothing about what was going on to help her catch up.Homework: she often is given homework every week in second grade with little to no explanation as to which problem, she needs to finish and which ones are unnecessary for her to do. (after weeks of this I had to send a reminder message to ask)I feel like in this school.I am out of the loop completely and that's sad!!Parent teacher conferences:
