I would rate my experience at this school 4/5. The people in my class were respectful most of the time although there is always the class clown and the popular group which makes it like any other school. My experiences with my teachers and other students in STEM were great but I cannot speak for those in Honors or regular classes.

Fifteen years ago, Maywood Elementary School was recognized as one of the highest-performing schools in LAUSD. However, since the current principal assumed leadership, academic performance has seen a significant decline. Concerns have been raised regarding her leadership style, particularly lack of rapport with students and staff. Communication with the school community is often delegated to the assistant principal, reportedly due to her personal preference of “not wanting to hear her own voice.”Additionally, there appears to be a greater emphasis placed on enforcing uniform policies rather than rather than addressing pressing academic needs, lack of discipline support, and behavioral issues, including bullying.It is also worth noting that the school's magnet program has a substantial waitlist, even for students residing within the school's attendance boundary. Meanwhile, every child of staff members? who attend the school, seem to consistently gain admission, which has prompted questions about the equity and transparency of the enrollment process.As a former staff member, who personally initiated a school transfer and is currently teaching at an incredible, high performing LAUSD school, I would recommend you explore all options of School Choice.

The teachers are very involved in the success of the children. I notice those children with successful grades have a heavy parent involvement. I personally am glad to see that. After raising 2 children who are both now in grad school and both also gainfully employed with an irvine based engineering firm, I am proud to say that mathematics are at the backbone of Maywood Academy High.

would not recommended 2 years here so far and they have not been good. The teachers are fine its just the staff here who are horrible failing to stop fights and to stop guns from being in the school as there as been multiple counts with students with weapons while i've been here. Not only that the vaping problem is out of control every time i walk in the restroom theres always kids vaping with staff doing little to nothing to prevent it. I will also not recommended sending special education kids here because here they are treated like a rare species as they are always separated from all the other kids even having separate classes. The building are practically falling apart yes they are old but hp highschool has been revamping there school for years and bell will just start next semester.

Out of the 3 schools in the complex i would say that steam is the most humble and beneficial school. It has many opportunities and keeps students engaged in what they’re learning. The majority of the teachers are communicative and overall the environment is very personable. The college counselors are extremely helpful and very immersed in the futures of their students, even if you don’t know what you’re going to do they open many more doors for you. I personally get the most out of their debate team, and have learned so much out of it in general. Being a small school, classes feel like families, furthering comfortability within the community. If there were any issues regarding the school, I wouldn’t feel the need to mention them because they get resolved in a timely matter. Overall, this school is very student friendly while keeping you informed on college and career choices and making sure you are doing your academic best.
