"Great community! Great neighbors with a small town feel to it. Close knit with many generations of residents. St John the Baptist is an EXCELLENT school!"
  • Southwood_park
"This is a great neighborhood. Let me write about each of the categories listed above. - I have seen the police reports for this association. It is a very quiet patrol. The Association also hires a security patrol that makes randomly timed passes. - Lots and lots of dog walkers. 15 minutewalk/5 minute drive to a Pawster Park dog park. The Friendly Fox cafe has a dog bowl and treats outside! - You can walk to the bus route. Bike routes and the rivergreenway pass through the neighborhood. Other than not being able to easily walk to a big grocery, we are walker friendly. - 10 minutes to Jefferson Pointe. 15 to Glenbrook Mall. 5 minutes to all the cool downtown eateries. - Foster Park is the region's crown jewel park. Floral gardens with 10K tulips, golf course, playgrounds, soccer, tennis, volleyball, river, bike trails (road/offroad). 5 mins to two other golf courses. - FWCS offers "exemplary" elementaries and middle schools through its magnet choice program: Whitney Young, Weisser Park, Irwin, Croninger, Memorial Park MS. Harrison Hill is a solid school. Unity South Lutheran and St John the Baptist are two fine parochial schools in the neighborhood. - Traffic: 25 minutes to anywhere in Ft Wayne. Folks from Indy/Chicago laugh when Ft Wayners complain about traffic. - Parking. This was an early "auto suburb" everybody has a garage. - Very close to downtown: Embassy Theatre, Parkview Field, the Dash-In, the Gas House, Jefferson Pointe. -Public Transportation: Citilink runs on Fairfield Avenue, bike racks on busses. - Community Involvement: 90 year old neighborhood association is one of the oldest in town: www.southwoodpark.org. - Cleanliness: very clean. Owners take great pride in neighborhood. Association has rental property limits. This is a great neighborhood. Bungalows to mansions, there is something here in everybody's price range and needs."
