6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIn my experience, the school needs upgrading in a few areas ... more focus on academics, higher quality homework assignments, better / more frequent teacher - parent communications, more frequent bathroom breaks for kids, and pickup / drop off create new system which are currently a confused mess, unsafe with little kids running through the parking lot and cars packed-in / backing up, its an accident waiting to happen. The people are generally friendly, mixed working class. The staff does seem overwhelmed, and somewhat inexperienced at managing the growing population of students in the community. So far, I'd rate Powers 3+ needs a quality upgrade, but adequate.Parent Review2y ago3 Reviews - Walter G. Nord Middle School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWalter G . Nord Middle School is a fantastic school. The teachers there are great too, when they teach students they put it in a form that they really can understand. Unlike some teacher in other schools, the teachers a Nord go a paste that isn't to slow or fast and if a student doesn't understand that moment the teacher takes the time to help that student understand. The only problem is the teachers sometimes try to teach to much and need to understand the student can only learn so much at a timeOther Review12y ago2 Reviews - Amherst Junior High School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe education you can receive here varies greatly. There are many good teachers, but there are also a many bad. The advanced program has become worse due to budget cuts and failing levies, but it is overall an above average school.Other Review13y ago3 Reviews - Check out schools near 4569 Fields Way.

"We have an awesome Halloween display and that in itself brings together at least 300 kids. That is not including the adults. We love to bring happiness to the people in our community and that is the best way we do it and the neighborhood loves it. We even have people that have been told and come from out of town to check it out."

"The school system is terrible and there are shootings, gangs and drugs all throughout the city. There are hardly any good paying jobs in the city and they punish the people who do work with all their taxes!!!!"

"Lorain is a cheap place to live but not good if you have kids. We are leaving Lorain to get our kids in better schools. There is a lot of gang violence and young teens dying. Don’t want my kids to grow up around that. "

"If you want to live in a community where your neighbors are more like family, and your children will have an endless supply of friends to play with, then Deerfield is the place. We've lived here for 5 years and love it. Everyone is kind and inviting. The only downside is the gun range, which is not moving any time soon. But honestly, after 5 years, we hardly notice the noise. But the nature and people surrounding us make up for it."

"Grew up on the West Side of Lorain, where most of my family still lives. Certain areas are better than others of course, but generally it is quiet and safe. Lorain has lots to offer like the boardwalk, the Palace theatre, and the International Fest in addition to being close to things like Cedar Point, Cleveland, and tons of shopping"
