Wonderful School, I notice that some others have given low ratings due to bullying. Sadly that happens everywhere, I do believe the new administration is more hands in that the previous and handle situations swiftly if and when they occur. That being said this school is safe, and has plenty of academic, athletic, and social opportunities to fit all different children. Two of my children went here, and both had positive experiences minus typical highschool stuff. If I could do it all over again I would still send them both to CHS!

WEST JEFFERSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL is one of JeffCo Ed's best kept secrets! The school is located in one of sweetest. smaller communities in the state. THE Mayor and First Lady are both graduates of West Jefferson Elementary and High School, and community involvement in the school is a priority. The school is one of the greatest assets to the community. All feel a love and strong devotion to the school, and keeping it small, in the age of mega-schools. The Principal and staff know the names of all the students. Student/Teacher ratios are around 12 to 1, so teachers know students well and can remediate or enrich students individually. which is very unique. Disciine problems are virtually non-existant, because teacher can simply talk and listen to the individual students in order to better understand the child's behavior West Jefferson Elementary is a precious school, and it is beautiful inside, full of lovely murals in all areas of the school. All students have art and music once a week, thanks to UA MFA Graduate and Grandson of the late, great, Mr. HUGHES, who is a legend to former teachers and alumnus of the school. He has volunteered as an art teacher for over 15 years and the children love him. His wife, Ms. Charlotte was Secretary for many years and is a regular volunteer at school. Love abounds at this school whose children come from a tight-knit little community of good people. Another amazing accolade of the school are the WONDERFUL LUNCHES. The lunches are healthy, yummy, and AWESOME! All children receive lunch free, as well as take-home snack bags on Friday for those who request it. Teachers are friendly, kind and care deeply about their students. The Principals and staff are amazing as well. WJ was named a "National.Blue Ribbon School.of Excellence," and the Banner/Award is proudly displayed on the exterior facade of the Upper Elementary School. The school has support of local businesses and especially the West Jefferson Town Hall. In these days of the trend toward replacing smaller schools with "Mega-Schools," where most children are anonymous, West Jefferson Elementary is a precious jewel, and one of the greatest assets to the community!

Both of my children attended this school and I have nothing jut good things to say. The only negative is just like any other Jeff Co Ed school they are a little tight about absences. Extremely safe environment, and plenty of resources are available to fit all children’s learning and social goals.
