ANN ARBOR OLD WEST SIDE WATERHILL NEIGHBORHOOD. Charming and cozy 3 bedroom 1 bath bungalow in the Waterhill neighborhood near downtown, neighborhood services, and public recreation. This is one of the oldest houses in Ann Arbor, and it recently got a fresh start. Four-forty Spring Street has been in my family since 1891 when my grandparents bought and expanded it in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Back then it was in a semi-rural area complete with a barn and livestock. The barn and farm animals are now gone, but a large yard (maintained by the landlord) and raised garden area remain. Seven years ago my wife and I thoroughly renovated the house so that it is practically a new building while still keeping a number of the historic features. We hope that it will last another 150 years.
The new parts of the renovation include:
- New wiring with multiple circuits and outlets in each room.
- Tamper resistant outlets.
- Hard-wired interlocking smoke detectors plus a carbon monoxide detector in the furnace room.
- High efficiency furnace and hot water heater.
- Large dry storage area in basement.
- Oak French doors.
- Secret passageway between living room and dining room.
- LED light fixtures.
- New hardwood flooring and carpeting.
- Spray foam insulation.
- Gas cook stove.
- Dishwasher in kitchen.
- New kitchen counters and floor.
- Complete laundry facilities available on site.
The historic parts of this renovation include:
- Cast iron claw foot bathtub with shower in a refurbished bathroom.
- Refurbished staircase.
- Original interior doors.
- Farmhouse sink.
- Vintage wall paper well preserved over time.
- Wall map of what Ann Arbor looked like when the house was built.
- Front porch with room for outdoor furniture.
- Backyard patio with walkout basement.
- Two off-street parking spaces with floodlight.

The principal doesn't even respond to emails or phone calls. The teachers are nice and seem to genuinely care about the kids. If the administration fails, how can the school function? 9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am currently a student at Slauson Middle School in grade 7, It is a very beautiful place. Most of the teachers are very kind and good people, especially, Mrs. Greene, Mr. Sternfels, Mrs. Margolis, Mrs. Darnton, Mr. Treze, and of course the best of them all Mr. Hooker who isn't a teacher. Although some of the teachers are stricter than others and others more laid back, none our bad people and I am happy to go to this school. The food here is great compared to my elementary school, lots of options. Additionally, it is a safe school, fights are not very common and when they happen they are broken up in a very short time if public, threats to schools are none from what I know, and the punishment system is stricter than average but not unreasonable. Finally, there are counselors you can go to who are very open and nice, Mrs. Kissel, Mrs. Chung, and I forgot the 3rd one. Nothing bad about the school's structure. They both have careers in STEM at this time. They both participated in Magnet Programs and those were very valuable to their learning experience.
