Franklin Elementary is a school with a student first philosophy. The community as a whole is welcoming and professional. This includes teachers, parents and administration.

My son has to hold his urinate everyday because he is not comfortable going to the restroom since he has witnessed some older kids vaping in there. It seems like they have had this problem for a long time and I wonder why it hasn't been resolved? There was one time that my son couldn't hold his urinate anymore and he tried to look for a restroom, but all of them were closed right after school. I am not sure if that's the way for this school to solve the problem about kids vaping by locking the boys restrooms after school? Also, it's so hard to get a hold of a counselor here. They don't respond back to emails or calls. This school is so unorganized. It's so frustrating.

THIS WAS THE WORST SCHOOL EXPERIENCE AND HAVE EVER ATTENDED. i had a White history teacher lady with curly red-ish hair. I had a lot of mental health problems in school and once had a meeting with my teachers where i cried and she ROLLED HER EYES in front of me and my mom the entire time. I would ask for makeup work and she in front of the class said “are you even going to do it” SO INCREDIBLY DISRESPECTFUL. This School does not care about your children’s education, happiness or health. They made my life miserable here as a high schooler. She would also flirt with boy students in the class. I had to move schools to even be able to graduate because of how little school counselors cared.

I have had two kids go to Lewis and both have had great experiences. The teachers and counseling staff are fantastic, and go above and beyond to work with parents to make sure they understand how their students are doing both academically, socially, emotionally. The honor roll assemblies are very appreciated, and the after school clubs have been great when my kids have been interested in the subject matter. The only real drawback about the school is the persistent traffic issues, caused by impatient parents during drop off. I have watched with dismay almost every week as parents drove recklessly in spaces where kids walked, dropping their kids off in the middle of the street, making u-turns into on-coming traffic, rushing in the opposite lane to go around cars letting kids out in the street. It feels unsafe, and I wish the school took it more seriously. (The crossing guard they had for a brief period of time was functionally useless, as the problem is parents driving unsafely by the Irwin gate, for instance.)

School looks nice now that they rebuilt it, but don't let it fool you. Unfortunately the school is underfunded, so there are way too many students per class. There is a heavy grading curve where a 50% will get your student a C. IEP is absolutely useless as they won't help your child even when their grades are clearly suffering. They're okay with letting many students slip through the cracks. They have very little programs. Teachers upload grades late or follow the IEP. They only use the Powerschool portal and there is virtually no communication from teachers. However the school will SOMETIMES post to their Facebook group for school updates and events. They provide laptops for schoolwork and heavily rely on it. If you ask them for help for your child they will say they have too many kids. If you have a child with a elarning disability, steer clear or get yourself an advocate.
