When we trust so much of our children's lives to teachers, getting only small glimpses of what goes on during their days, the quality of such glimpses matters. What we see from our teachers is consistently good. For example:1) While cleaning house I was tossing most of David's art (he doesn't care about art), but when I came to his pumpkin from last year the story behind it was just too sweet to toss.Mrs. Dunham had beamed and gone and on and on about how proud she was of the thinking behind his art. They were covering pumpkins with orange dots, yet he left some white.) Instead of assuming that he was taking the easy route, like many of us adults would Mrs. Dunham had asked open-ended questions... discovering that this pumpkin wasn't fully developed so it wasn't orange all the way.2) Mrs. Blum remembered from Vetran's day 2 years ago what branch of the military David's dad was in. She used that do draw the kids into a lesson on longitude & laditude. 3) Sarah's kindergarten teacher worked with her on test anxiety. That is a detail that is not required of her.4) Several of thier teachers have writen to them during the summers.
