About this House

Welcome to Historic Colusa where this grand colonial home sits on a beautiful corner lot landscaped with an English Garden by Sperbecks Nursery. This home, known as the historic John L. Langdon House, was designed in 1917 by highly acclaimed Berkeley California architect, Walter Ratcliff (1881-1978). Ratcliff designed many notable homes, schools and office buildings in the Bay Area, and has five of his works on the National Register of Historic Places. This grand manor has been featured in both the 1988 book "If the Walls Could Talk, Colusa's Architectural Heritage", by Jane Foster Carter, and the 2021 book "Painting the Grand Homes of California's Central Valley" by JP Lane. As you walk up the front sidewalk to the brick curved entry steps, the splendor as you open the front door to the grand staircase will take your breath away leading you upstairs to 3 bedrooms and a master bedroom and two full seperate bathrooms. Entrance to the glassed in upstairs sunroom is easily accessed through two of the bedrooms. This room could be used as an office, sewing room, den or even playroom and has a beautiful view of the neighborhood. Downstairs features a formal dining room with beautiful built in hutch and window seating. The kitchen features quartz counter, stovetop, oven, microwave and lots of storage. The breakfast room has window seating and chairs where the sunlight filters through and brightens your mornings. The entry way features a 1/2 bath for guests. The living room features a fireplace, along with french doors that lead out to the screened sun porch where two sets of large doors give you access to the front and back yard to enjoy the open space to host your informal parties, barbecues or a winter fire pit to sit and read a book. The living room also features two built in hutches. The home also features wainscot, crown molding and multiple original lighting fixtures. The front yard also features raised beds for a vegetable garden, with a watering system. In addition, the home also has owned Solar. This home has been very well maintained and loved...

"Always keep an eye on your children in general. But this is a pretty great neighborhood. Sometimes cars can go fast than they are supposed to! "
  • Julie T.
"there's River access lotz of parks go burger place its very quiet peacefully............................."
  • Daniela G.
"What makes this neighborhood unique is that during Christmas the fire trucks come to the every home with Santa passing out candy canes. I never lived anywhere with such humanity. Colusa is a great little town. Not too far and not to close from everything. "
  • Shaunpresley
"Colusa is quiet, that's hard to come by these days. I'm within walking distance of a river front park and can enjoy it any time I want"
  • pam d.
"I live and work in Colusa. I moved here almost one year ago. It is a lovely small town. Central houses can walk in minutes to hardware, grocery, coffee/bakery, restaurants (pub/bar, Mexican, pizza, American breakfast & lunch), library, drug store, florist, paint store, and several others. There are a number of parks with equipment for children. It is a very green place and maintaining trees is important to the town. Community members are generally very involved. There are a number of town fairs and festivals throughout the year. It is 1 hour from Sacramento. The nearest city with the "big box" stores is 25 minutes away."
  • pam d.
"I moved to Colusa 5 months ago. Most residents grew up here or moved here to raise families. Living near Market Street, one can walk to most businesses: supermarket, hardware, drug store, restaurants, florist, convenience store. There are a number of small parks and playgrounds for children. The community sponsors frequent events such as fairs, feasts, and festivals. There is very little traffic, even with highway 20 running through the town. It is a very pleasant place to live."
