The pros are that they have a lot of electives and learning pathways and great opportunities for the students. The biggest con is the principal, Julie Redfield. She allows her teachers to get away with discriminatory behaviors towards students even when their are documented witnesses and the teachers own written account. Parents are not considered partners, rather she is dismissive of any concerns raised. Students with differing beliefs, medical issues, and anxiety are not accommodated.l as she does not prioritize the needs of the individual student. When educators stop caring about kids, its time to retire. Carlsbad High could be great under the right leader and with getting rid of teachers that set the example with discrimination in the classroom.

I would love to start by saying that my kids ended up going to calavera by “accident” (Not in gods eyes) we recently purchased a condo in Carlsbad school district. My kids have always gone to Magnolia Elementary school. When we found out that the condo we purchased was in the District of Calavera we were really bummed out because my kids had lots of friends at Magnolia Elementary school they’ve been going there since kindergarten. After two weeks at Calavera school both my daughter and son are happy that the Lord has put this great school in our paths. The principal Kimberly Fuentes has such an amazing huge heart! She’s very caring and the teachers that have been selected for my kids are just as awesome! One would assume that a school located in a pleasant area of Carlsbad would provide quality learning and safe environment. However, Calavera fails to achieve any of this. Our child faced persistent bullying, harassment, and even assault. The staff took no action whatsoever in response to these incidents. It reached a point where she was so fearful that she preferred to stay in the classroom during lunch rather than eat with her peers. The administration appears to prioritize political activism and protests over the education and safety of the students, which is quite unreasonable for children at such a formative age. Additionally, there is a significant issue with drug use and vaping on campus, and once again, the staff seems indifferent. The principal appeared particularly nonchalant about the concerns we brought to her attention.
