"We've visited Edenton numerous times and love the area....this is where we want to move after we sell our lake property and the one here in Apex.....just need to find the right house, on the water."
  • Susan S.
"Edenton really is a beautiful, small town on the water, which makes it great for families, reitrees, & couples, not to certain about singles. The area and the people seem very warm and welcoming...good restaurants, some nice shops, and a nice downtown park by the water. We love sitting in the rocking chairs and watching the water....very relaxing and wonder place."
  • dbashoponline
"Edenton is a small town. It sits on the water which makes for a great setting. The town itself was incorporated in 1712, making it 300 years old this year, and much of that is reflected in the town's architecture. Walking through town is like walking through history. You have a number of structures dating back to the 1700's most of them in use today even as homes, and a large amount of homes that go back to the 1800's and early 1900's. The people here take pride in their town and do what they can to ensure that the character inherent in many of their buildings are well preserved. Many who live here were born and raised in the area, but there are also those, me included, who discovered this town and its charms and made it their home. Our influence has been primarily come in taking older homes in need of TLC and restoring them to their former glory. What you therefore see are wonderful homes, from the modest to the impressive, that line many of the streets in town, making this a wonderful place to live for families, young couples starting out and retirees as well. The amenities here are understandably limited. It is a character and a lifestyle that people seek here--historic, pretty (one of the prettiest small towns in the US, by Forbes' estimation), quiet, peaceful and friendly, and yet characterized by a well-educated citizenry that really cares about the town. You have everything you need here for your everyday living. What is lacking is what you might want for your weekend living. This is not a hopping town, and even neighboring towns don't have much in the way of nightlife going for them. Singles looking for social outlets might therefore be challenged, as will gourmands looking for more than good old home cooking they might find in our local diners. For anyone else looking for a lovely place to live and truly get to know their neighbors, you'd be hard pressed to find anyplace better than Edenton."
  • Terry C.
"A secret little "gem" that not many know about. This place is a little Charleston or Savannah with less than 5000 people. It is located on the waterfront of the beautifual Albemarle Sound. It is the 2nd oldest town in NC and dates back to 1728 when it was founded. Lots and lots of history and beautiful old architecture. This place is a perfect setting for those who are retired, semi-retired, or thinking about retiring in the future and who are looking for peace, quiet, solitude, beauty, quantness, history, great year round weather, low cost of living, and waterfront living. Check out this best kep secret that is the "prettiest little town in the South"."
