HISTORIOGRAPHY OF 404 3RD. STREET, CHERAW, SC 29520 THE HENRY POWE DUVALL HOUSE, Circa. 1838 The Henry Powe Duvall home is located in the Cheraw Historic District (Nat. Reg. 1974). Cheraw is located on the [removed] Dee River, founded in 1766, eventually developing into a commercial town. Cheraw is an area representative of various styles of 19th Century architecture. Within the District there are early frame homes of the 1800's, typically called Upcountry farmhouses - antebellum structures with Greek revival porticos and Victorian hoses of the turn of the 19th century. The subject was originally advertised for sale as a "spec" house by Conlaw Lynch in 1838. The home was purchased various times by members of the Powe Family, and thereafter acquired by the Duvall Brothers in 1877.
