About this House

This architectural masterpiece is a stand-out home in the Fan. It's location across from Lombardy Park where generations of Fan children have played, and one block off Monument Avenue, put it in the hub of the Fan neighborhood. We wish the walls could talk! The home was designed by prominent Fan builder Gilbert Hunt, built by a doctor whose designed the basement as his medical practice, and lived in by famous mid-century architect Haigh Jamgochian. A 2021 full renovation added beautiful contemporary lines and state-of-the-art amenities to this peaceful and spacious home. Enter the grand foyer with paneled walls, original staircase, and 10 ½ foot ceilings. The parlors and dining room have been opened for a continuous contemporary flow and maximum sunlight especially through the curved glass trio of windows. Note the designer lighting, several made for the home by Dutch design firm greypants. The epicurean kitchen sports double Wolf ovens and rangetop, Subzero fridge, expansive quartz countertops and so much light. A 1.5 car GARAGE is attached to the home, a rarity in the Fan. The second floor has three bedrooms including a second suite, two baths, and a family room open to a relaxing loggia with neighborhood views. The third floor is all primary suite with a private deck, large white tile and quartz bath, and an impressive closet! The four-level elevator makes for easy living. The basement has both interior & exterior entrances and three flexible rooms plus a full bath. It is currently set up as a media room, kitchenette, and exercise room. Additionally this property has a lot behind the garage that was purchased and could be ideal for a pool, guest house, or additional parking. The walking score is excellent with the best restaurants, museums, theaters and a Whole Foods nearby!

"Walkability is underrated! The fan is beautiful historic rowhouses mixed with small parks and shops. You can walk to the grocery store/markets, coffee shops, the vet, restaurants, bakeries, etc., but it’s still quiet at night in most areas. Can walk or bike about a mile to Carytown too for more fun shops and several grocery stores. People are friendly."
  • Helga
"Walking around the fan and looking at all the seasonal wreaths and decorations on beautiful old row houses doesn’t get old. It’s such a pretty neighborhood. From the fan it’s also not too far (~1 mile) to the lakes at Byrd park, which is also a great place to walk your dog. You can also walk to the fan vet! Lots of restaurants are within walking distance too, along with dentists, small parks, coffee shops, museums, and markets. I walk my dog to Carytown from the fan too (~1 mile). Sugar and Twine in Carytown makes dog treats, and many of the stores are dog friendly. There are fun neighborhood events like house tours, a block that closes for Halloween, and an art walk."
  • Katie Lynn
"It’s a beautiful sight to walk around, lots of grass but in pockets. Monument ave is a good strip to run with your dog on grass"
  • Cody Nystrom
"The Halloween is very good in this neighborhood and the neighbors are very friendly. It is also extremely close to the public elementary being one block away"
  • Reshelle Johnson
"The area is full of life in the heart of the fan/ carytown, Vcu, and museum district. It’s safe to say that a lot has changed and it mostly for the better."
  • Y8cdhryfmp
"To everything honestly it’s a good place if you have vehicle or don’t have a vehicle you can catch the bus"
  • Davebenz
"I lived here 7-8 years ago and it was wonderful then. Even better now. So many great restaurants, art galleries, parks and other things to do. And now it is right on a bus line, which is so convenient. And only about 5 blocks to VCU, too. Would love to live there again!"
  • Trulia User

"Dog park is a short drive away, always people walking dogs and bags around the neighborhood in case you run out. Not many trash cans though and grass is limited unless you’re on the main roads"
  • Becker.household
"to many dog owners don't clean up after their pet, lots of green spaces for them to run around, dog parks, pocket parks. "
  • Endofjourneylilly
"Ultimate walking neighborhood. Peppered with privately owned fabulous businesses.. the Fan takes its holidays very seriously. Absolutely awesome neighborhood. Oh, and huge gardening community!"
  • Donna W.
"Lovely, diverse neighborhood close to museums, parks, VCU and lots of cultural activities. Parents are very involved in the local elementary schools."
  • Francine S.
"This neighborhood is very dog friendly but, there is no dog park within walking distance. It would be nice to have one. "
  • Henry A.
"Dog owners are very common here, so residents don’t pay much attention when your pet slows near their property. All owners here are good about picking up after their pooches, so you aren’t viewed with suspicion. "
  • Jamie T.
"I work from home, but when I did commute there were seldom any issues outside of a random race or festival."

  • Warewolvves
"I walk from Randolph to the fan for work. Sometimes it’s sketchy sometimes not. Sometimes there’s a lot of foot traffic sometimes none. I do like all the different houses and gardens. There are also a lot of sweet alley finds"
