About this House

This property is being offered for sale for the first time in 50 years! This house being offered
For auction by owner and more details please contact us!The A. E. Burckhardt House is the residence of Bavarian-born furrier Adam Edward Burkhardt in the Avondale neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio. The mansion was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in March 1980. Burckhardt constructed a small factory and store at Fourth and Elm Streets in 1891. 4 It was later destroyed by fire, but it was soon reopened on Race Street. The financial panic of 1893 caused financial distress. By 1895, Burckhardt was bankrupt. After borrowing $825 from two former employees, he started another raw fur business at Second and Main streets, which relocated to Third and Main streets in 1905. Burckhardt was also elected president of the Cincinnati Zoo at a time when the organization was contemplating bankruptcy and remained in that position for 14 years. Edgewood was listed for sale in 1902, but after no buyer came through, it was sold at a sheriff’s sale for half of its value to Joseph Joseph. 5 7 Joseph died in 1904 but the home remained with his wife until 1919 when their son Arthur Joseph took ownership. Arthur and his wife Florence lived in the residence until 1936 when it was acquired by Robert H. Gibson.

"Lots of CATS and they breed a lot! I seen two litters of cats just driving by the other day. I don’t know what they’re doing to help with animal control but it’s not working. "
  • Brittany russ
"Too many stray cats and stray dogs. Plus, there’s no care in the neighborhood. Raccoons are also out, some might have rabies. "
  • Trulia User
"Cincinnati is cleaning it up because the gun violence in that area is bad, id there's not a shooting everyday then it's every other day. even the young teens carry and shoot people. I know the city and community is cleaning up the local area, but it is close to downtown Cincinnati, right where the best hospitals in the nation are, far enough from downtown Cincinnati to make it affordable just got to weigh in either your wallet isn't effected by mortgage or rent then your safety or life. I would never raise children in this location "
  • D A.
"Nice community. People watch out for each other. Hardly ever any problems on the street. Has a community-family feel"
  • Ronda H.
"The revitalization project. And the many community partnerships that support the low income families"
  • Nay2kholld
"it's familiar walking distance to hospitals and on the bus line walking distance to stores and most restaurants"
  • Chad P.

"I’ve lived in Avondale for 6years now. It has its bad parts but also it’s great parts! I live on the corryville side of the zoo and I love it! "
  • alteredillusionz
"This is a very nice area to live in. Quiet and the neighbors are friendly, and watch out for everyone's homes. On one side, the lot is vacant, and on the other side, is a vacant home."
