7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageFantastic school community. We love that our son has teacher teams in 6th grade. They are awesome! The academics are quite good and the after school activities are varied and fun. One of the best aspects is the school/home communication -- top notch. I was apprehensive, initially, to send my son here, because lets face it...middle school is a crazy age. But after six months I can honestly say it is great here. Facilities are the best around; the counselor and administration are visible and helpful. Great school.Parent Review6y ago11 Reviews - Santa Margarita Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAttended this school for 2 years, the principal wasn’t not helpful on any concerns we had. Played favorites, didn’t follow regulations for health and food safety. My child was very good and would get written up if they weren’t running fast enough to line up. I have another child who went there and these write ups affected them to high school. If another child was physical or inappropriate the principal would not hear our concern and made my child feel like they were in trouble, taking from their class time. The class sizes had 32 kids, way too large of a class for one teacher. They tried to split up the kids who needed more help and made them feel left out and behind more. No structure, I would have been better off homeschooling since we mostly did that anyways due to the lack of daily interaction with each student. The programs being offered like free lunch were not helpful due to the rude lunch lady who would make my child go to the back of the line if they forgot the lunch number. Very discouraging. Would not recommend champions either, teachers will not help your child open any snacks if they tried to open it with their mouth, even though they are kids just trying to figure it out themselves. There’s some clubs your student could join, those could be fun, but due to the other issues, we never wanted to stay long, discouraging staff. They will write your child up and blame the child for being late instead of hearing the parent. I’ve heard staff in the office tell children to SHH and be quiet when they were hurt from being forced to sit outside and eat lunch off the ground on the hot blacktop in May. Used a thermometer to measure the ground was reading 100 degrees. Way too hot and exhausting for children, also unclean. The bathrooms will be closed and kids won’t know why, my child wasn’t able to use the restroom and I had to ask why they were closed, staff said to go to the office. Our children are supposed to have more than one facility. This school try’s to get away with little things throughout the year that completely are inhumane. Hopefully a new principal could come in and help soon. Would not return my child there until there’s changes for the better of the children we are raising.Parent Review1y ago11 Reviews - Paloma Creek High

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBest school I have ever attended, and I have attended several. The teachers get to know the students on a personal level, making it more comfortable in the classroom. The teachers actually care about the student's success. The school prepares you for the real world, and they even help you obtain many skills that will help students get a job when they graduate. They work with you. You work at your own pace. I almost don't want to leave because I am so comfortable there.Student Review14y ago5 Reviews - Check out schools near 4 Highway 41.

"You have to have a car. There are bike lanes, but it’s still quite a ride to get most places. The buses are slow and unreliable "

"The weekly farmers market and street fair attracts thousands of people. Cerro San Luis Peak hiking trail is two hundred yards away. The Foothill commercial district provides trendy restaurants, coffe shops, gyms and a grocery store. "

"Easy drive with little congestion. Parking downtown requires imagination and persistence. Public transit is slow and very rare on weekends or evenings. Not much demand. "

"The town is very spread out, and when you need to go across town (work and school) it feels inconvenient and because the transit in slo is centered in the center of the city, it makes it even more difficult to choose public transit. "

"I work within walking distance of my home so my commute is easy. San Luis has pockets of homes and businesses. There is a down town area. I live away from that. Traffic is increasing and can be an issue at the end of the day. There is a bus stop however buses are infrequent. "
