My oldest is Autistic, Neuropsych that we personally paid for to find out what was going on and help the school. Her IEP made ZERO sense because they refused to put reason for iep Autism with Selective Mutism, I spent 4 years explaining to them why telling her she needs to talk DOESN'T WORK. Makes it even worse, a clinical social worker, OT ect. they KNOW THIS. Every year the team woukd change and id have to explain everything again because her iep was a disgrace and made no sense. Senior year I was completely left in the dark and now little by little as my daughter sits in the house, she tells me what went on and how upset it is because they didn't know how to help her, no they did, they chose not too. Well they never knew the answers to some of my questions, that's because they'd be admitting your Autustic. Selective Mutism is not treated by "Well you have to do it" and they KNOW IT. I can't even handle writing this because of the shear h#!!! and knowing the school did not do a dam thing for my daughter to help her achieve even one IEP goal, besides push her through graduation. She will never even drive, couldn't even accomplish that one. Unless your child is a delinquent with behavioral problems or severely developmently disabled,I'd suggest a lawyer better yet a different school system because it's a disgrace what they did to my daughter and I. She will never make up those years and they all know and just lied straight to my face. Only a certain type of person can do that. I thank God my 8th grader is going to the tech next year. Should've stayed in Burlington.

great learning environment, great staff, building needs updates

We love the Ditson. It is a very positive learning environment and there is a lot of energy and pride at this school. The kids are encouraged to "Be the Best you can Bee!" and it really shows. We've had fantastic teachers that work well with parents to promote a great experience. I volunteer in the school and there is a lot of parent involvement at the Ditson. As a former educator myself, and now as a parent, I can say that the Ditson can claim a great administration, teachers, and learning environment.
