Extremely disappointed and concernedI am extremely disappointed with how this situation has been handled by the school. A student told my granddaughter that he wanted to get a gun and shoot her. This is not something that should ever be treated as a simple disagreement between children. A threat involving a firearm should be taken extremely seriously.As a grandparent, I expected the school to immediately prioritize my granddaughter’s safety, properly investigate the threat, involve the appropriate authorities, and clearly communicate with our family about what was being done to protect her.Instead, I have been left feeling like we have to fight to get answers and make sure this situation is taken seriously. No parent or grandparent should have to wonder whether their child is safe while attending school.I am extremely concerned about the way this was handled, and I believe the district needs to take a much stronger approach when a student makes a threat involving shooting another student.Our children’s safety should never be treated as something secondary. A threat to shoot a student should result in immediate and serious action.
