5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe recently switched into MLK from the private and charter systems. This switch was due to several issues within the private and charter systems that began to become evident post covid. Things we’ve noticed on this particular campus: the principal is extremely proactive on this campus. She does not blow off parent or student concerns. She addresses each issue, as we have witnessed. Her timing may not be immediate, which could upset some parents, but honestly, some situations need time to be evaluated and the campus has a lot of students, making immediate action difficult at times. Prioritizing is a key component of a successful administrator. The teachers are qualified. Compared to a specific homeschool system in this district and several surrounding private schools, the teachers in the public system are highly qualified (for the most part). Although I personally disagree with any crossing of political, social, or gender preferences on school campuses, we have only heard of a few teachers who outwardly promote these agendas (but we have not experienced these teachers). The school offers a number of electives, a decent PE system, clean classrooms, and extra curricular options. There are a good deal of students and that allows for students to find their own group and support system. Middle school is tough. Middle school has always been tough. From our perspective, taking into consideration countless friends and family members who attend more affluent schools, they face the same challenges and complain about the same issues that we hear parents at this school discuss. We do not see any great difference between this middle school and one in a more affluent area. Our kids say this school actually has less fights and less mean kids than some of the surrounding city schools that are more affluent.Parent Review5mo ago31 Reviews - El Camino High School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have two children, and one is still at this school. I’ve tried to stay positive, but over time it’s been hard to ignore ongoing concerns. It often feels like the bigger issues start at the district level, where teachers, students, and staff don’t seem fully supported. After opening to school of choice, the campus now feels overcrowded without the space or resources to match. Many families we knew have transferred out because the school simply doesn’t offer as much as others nearby. The facilities are concerning. The multipurpose room is outdated, bathrooms seem always out of order and I’ve heard staff had to push just to get air conditioning in the kitchen. Some classrooms have leaks when it rains, and there are ongoing issues with ants, mice, and rats. After rainy days, my child often comes home with significant mosquito bites, which raises questions about maintenance. The food is mostly frozen, prepackaged, and repetitive. There isn’t much variety, and it doesn’t feel very healthy.Safety is another concern. While the front office staff can be kind, it sometimes feels too easy to walk straight onto campus. Kindergarten classrooms are right along a busy street with fencing that feels too open. There are no crossing guards, and I know of two incidents where children were hit by cars nearby. It’s hard not to worry when nothing seems to change.Parents also have very limited access to campus, aside from conferences and one classroom visit, which makes it difficult to feel connected. Some teachers are truly incredible and do their best, but class sizes are large and often close to 30 in lower grades and up to 35 in upper grades which making individual attention difficult. The school lacks enrichment programs. There’s no consistent music, dance, or theater, and nothing for advanced learners. The strings program is limited and not consistent.Parking and pickup are frustrating, with limited parking and poorly managed pickup lines. The PTO is a bright spot and works incredibly hard to provide field trips and experiences for students. Unfortunately, it doesn’t feel like the principal actively supports their efforts.Communication can be inconsistent, and interactions with administration don’t always lead to follow-through.Overall, there are caring individuals at the school, but the lack of resources, support, and programs makes it a challenging environment for students to thrive.Parent Review1mo ago34 Reviews - Check out schools near 3901 Mesa Dr #11101.

"Very safe and calm area. Nice parks but don’t go too far into the city as it can get dangerous and sketchy."

"Oceanside is a great place to live. I love it here! My neighborhood (near Kaiser Permanente) is quiet, well-maintained, and safe. Most of my neighbors are military families (including myself) due to our close proximity to the base."

"Very quiet but huge apt complexes and inadequate roads cause traffic. The City didn’t complete expected roads and access to freeway so there is a red light every quarter mile... "

"in the path of progress with hundreds of acres of open land being developed for recreation and commercial use. Award winning schools, great weather (about 5 miles off the coast so not too hot and not too cool & cloudy). MLK park and now El Corazon area makes it great for active families. Close but not too close to major freeways makes for easy commute while having a quiet neighborhood. "

"You could not hand pick better neighbors! Dad and kids playing catch in the yards. Laughing, soccer playing, kids in the tot-lot, couples out for evening strolls! I LOVE this neighborhood. Ivey Ranch has the best teachers, administrators and PTO of any school! If you are lucky enough to find a house in here, grab it! "

"There are numerous problems with Blackhawk Ave in Rancho Del Oro and the HOA can be very difficult to deal with. There is a open attitude of hostility towards certain types of people like renters, gay, jew, and anyone of color. The HOA will open litigation towards renters and homeowners over supposed violations. Heck as my friends were moving in the postal carrier tried to deliver a certified letter with a written complaint on them. They broke the lease and left California sick of this extremely restrictive and foul nature towards as they put it undiserables."
