  • Jenn Ryan
"Local dog parks are very nice . Even walking around on sidewalks it’s a nice place. Usually nothing blocking the way on sidewalks. Well maintained (besides the snow) not much we can do about that "
  • Christopher Orzeske
"It’s a real community nestled in the GBA, full of character and culture. Definitely skews younger, but 20s-30s younger rather than college kids for the most part. "
  • Charity Murphy
"This is a great neighborhood for public transportation. If you own a car or god for it two cars. and commute out of the city for work, it doable but not fun. "
  • Trulia User
"I've never owned a dog, so I don't know. I know there are a ton of dogs though, so there's gotta be something..or maybe it's just that dogs are awesome."
  • Trulia User
"Convenient access to mbta bus to red line train. Also close to green line. Lots of commuting walkers and students along the way. "
  • Trulia User
"There are many events throughout the year but my favorite hands down is the Fluff Fest! They close the entire square and have activities for kids and adults. "
  • Trulia User
"There are many families in this neighborhood, there are parks and lots of dogs and sometimes the dogs and cats put on plays and talent shows. There was once a giraffe on rollerskates and everyone loved it"
  • Trulia User
"Safe neighborhood and a lot of young people , safe and fun . 2min from boston, just a lot of traffic around"
  • Dmesspla
"Restaurants, farmers markets, local businesses that remember your face. Everything at your fingertips."
  • Jonah P.
"flufffest is an amazing experience and I highly recommend attending it. Halloween is also fun with any activities for kids and adults"
  • Stephen
"Union Square is the community event heart of Somerville: Fluff Fest, Ignite, the city's best farmers' market, and a big hub in Porch Fest and Honk."
  • Ryan F.
"Minimal commute as I live reasonably close and when commuting I can use public transportation, drive, or bike. Public transportation includes bus and light rail transit."
  • Aman R.
"Great area to live and great commute options. Close to Harvard and also has lots of bus routes. Many options for food "
  • Ray S.
"Diverse community. College students. Good restaurants. Close to commuting locations. Close to Kendal square and Harvard square. "
  • Angfretzen
"It used to be more unique with great ethnic restaurants and a laid back atmosphere. Union Square is transforming into a busy, business oriented neighborhood."
  • Akina A.
"Great places to eat. Full of students and lots of night activities to do. Amazing bars and easy to visit boston or cambridge from here. Just a 45 minute walk to central square and harvard square. Nice parks to sit in and visit. Good place for walking and theres always new things to see. Very diverse."
  • Nee to
"Very easy and simple commute, my workplace is only in Davis. The traffic is not great right now because of the construction but hopefully that will clear up in a few months or so."
  • Gbrettrobb
"Lots of other dog owners walking around the neighborhood. Shady green parks. Some off leash parks."
  • Ande G.
"The rent is high due to the commercialization and the green line construction, however, if that is not an issue, then you might like it here! It seems like there are a good amount of community events, however, I work full time as a young professional and have not had the time to explore too much."
  • Jordan B.
"I’ve lived here since 2013. Union is great for families with kids, lots of great play spaces and quiet side streets. Also some of the best restaurants in Boston "
  • Mrodriguez2550
"Clean and quiet environment. Great schools. For me, I think Somerville is the best city to raise my kids. "
  • Mrodriguez2550
"I can’t say anything about it since i do not own a dog but i think most of the home around the area are pretty okay with allowing pets or dogs in our neighborhood"
  • Bambi B.
"There is a dog park next to the field on Summer Street where dogs can run amuck and play with each other. This is a very dog-centric community."
  • Bambi B.
"The new MBTA extension will pass through it making it easier for commuters to and from the area into Boston or Medford. It's still a diverse cultural experience with a grand Brazilian shop and other smaller shops (including the reliable market, that's been there for almost 40 years), to give the Square flair and connect many of its diverse residents. I also love the memories I have here, including the Dunkin Donuts that's still there. I also enjoy the convenience of getting into Boston through it."
  • Bambi B.
"I walk. If I need to get to Boston, Medford or Cambridge I take the MBTA (bus) to the stations to Davis or Lechmere and then rapid transit to my destinations. In my city we have bikeshare, carshare services and uber/lyft and greencab. It is also cyclist friendly -- they have bike paths and bike sections on the roads to make it easier for these commuters."
  • Bambi B.
"There is a growing center which is open to all during the warmer season and many even are held here. There is a circus event that happens every year and that happens in the soccer park next to it."
  • Jenna L.
"There are parks around the neighborhood. There are also wide sidewalks."
  • Jenna L.
"I love Bow Market with its artisenal shops. This is a new addition to the neighborhood, and fits into Union Square perfectly! There are also delicious ethnic restaurants throughout the neighborhood."
  • Jenna L.
"I need to take the bus and train to work each day. I cannot wait for the green line extension - it cannot come fast enough."
  • Jenna L.
"It is a very safe area. However, there are a handful of bars around, so you may want to keep this in mind."
  • Bree S.
"There's a dog park right nearby! Plus a new pet shop opened not long ago."
  • Bree S.
"The excellent food! A great mix of new and old."
  • Bree S.
"Very easy by bus! But I avoid driving through Union whenever possible."
  • Bree S.
"I think it's a valuable opportunity to teach children about gentrification, and why it can be a bad thing. Union Square is unique in that it is not as gentrified as Porter or Davis (YET). That's what makes it so wonderful."
  • Robert O.
"It's very close to schools and the Growing Center has educational events for kids."
  • Bambi B.
"We have a great school system in Somerville, focusing on the ARTS and stem."
  • Ryan F.
"Great neighborhood. Convenient to shopping, dining, and all sorts of culture. Very diverse and friendly people live in the area"
  • Rooz333
"I don't know them very well... all I got is good references from people that have known them for a long time. "
  • Kmcdougall126
"It’s a safe neighborhood and the views and the people that live here are great. It’s convenient to any store/market but also 93."
  • Marquise R.
"I've lived in this neighborhood for just under a year. It's very friendly and well kept. Public transportation is very accessible with multiple bus lines running thru the area. About 5 grocery stores are within 10 min away and it is within a 10 min drive of Davis, Porter, Harvard, and MIT"
