My son had two excellent years at Anthony Wayne Junior High and I have no reservations about my other two children attending AWJH in the future. My son was challenged, supported, and I saw great gains during his junior high years. He developed new friendships and I was impressed with the career interest activities provided. The extra curricular are top notch as well.

Overall Anthony Wayne is a great school. The teachers know what they're doing and the students are exceptionally good. Their athletics program is one of the best, frequently getting state and even national recognition. The school has an excellent program for gifted students, offering a myriad of AP classes and the classes are quite accelerated. Gifted students are able to obtain high school credits in 7th and 8th grade, opening up course slots in later grades. The counseling isn't anything special, but they certainly aren't lacking, and they will help you. The food is mediocre at best, but it's edible and you can always pack a lunch. As for family interactions, I cannot make an opinion. My family hasn't needed to get involved in my academics. Everyone's pretty nice in school, and it's unlikely you'll encounter bullies. However, I must warn you: DO NOT go to Anthony Wayne High School if your child has severe disabilities. ADHD, ADD, Autism and other disorders which allow normal functioning are fine, and they can find success in this school. However, if your child ends up in one of the "intervention" classes, you might as well just have him drop out. From what I've seen, the intervention wing of the school is basically a daycare.Overall, I'd highly recommend this school, just mind the few caveats.

im a student at this school and heres my experience so far with autism and anxiety. first of all they denied me having a comfort item which is not helping me at all. they make disabled students feel like they can't be supported during class. next, i asked about getting a 504 plan about a month ago, and nobody has talked about it since. this does not support my mental health or disabilty at all. next, when i need to take a break during class the staff immediately denies it. genuinely horrible. this is really bad for my well being. another reason is that they said theres no fidgets allowed in certin classrooms. from what i know the stem room. i bring my fidget anyway because it helps me learn. the work is absolutely horrible. idk if its just my teachers or anyone elses but if i turn in something late, maybe a day late, the teacher talks to me about it in front of the whole class and they stare at me. that makes me really anxious. they dont reconize me for my disability, just a kid who turns in work late and wants to bring toys and stuffed animals to class. if your disabled or your child is disabled, do not let them go to this school. if a staff member sees this please fix this immediately and please talk with students who have asked to have things such as a 504 plan, iep, emotional support stuffed animals, ect, please talk with them.

We moved to the AW area for the schools and my son has attended Monclova for 3 years. We have been nothing but amazed by the teaching and administrative support. We are moving out of state at the end of the school year and are finding it hard to match the quality of AW schools! Go Generals:)
