Highlands High is not a place I would recommend to any parent! My son started in Aug as a Freshman & left in June a FRESHMAN! Hated every minute was late a lot & missed many days but never one phone call. He failed everything but ROTC which was not requested & my permission was never sought. There was zero contact. No counselor or teacher made any attempt to find out what was wrong or attempt to fix! Counselors are supposed to assist in Summer School (credit recovery) but I took care of that footwork Summer School was in a different school & he made up all credits. I thought he would be fine but two days before school resumes he expressed a strong desire to not return. I spoke to no one at Highlands to change mg son out, as a matter of fact all I needed was a copy of his transcript for one year & had to have for him to attend another school. I went in & expressed the real need told she left for lunch (230) & it would be awhile. I went back at 400- CLOSED. Next day I called no records given or requests taken by EMAIL ONLY. I did that expressing need & class starting next day. No reply I go there & still never see the person but told she was doing something else & would be at least a week for my request to be addressed. Luckily a Counselor that worked at Highlands & new HS has been there the previous year & was able to access his transcript in 2 minutes. Also, there are maybe 9 people listed with job title including Registrar & Student Liason both listed under Counseling Dept & as of the day one there was not even ONE counselor (2 student liaisons = Counselors meaning 2 at.lesst?? None. Not one. The year before they had one possible full time and one part time that went full time with the other part time school she was a member of the staff with meanwhile the other had left sometimes the previous year! Also one males bathroom but not to worry your son won't be tardy to class for using the bathroom unless he wants to start vaping on any given day! I can't tell you what I disappointment this school is. They care nothing about those kids or what they need in any way! Short staffed? Maybe, but they would rather spend your tex dollars revamping the entire entrance than to pause the pretty update & hire anyone to do anything for the kids that will be adults to actually better themselves & graduate!! I think it should be looked at for reclassification to become another type of Charter School.

My child just promoted last year and had an absolutely incredible experience at Sierra View Elementary School. The teachers are incredible and so helpful in enriching my daughter's education. The principal who came a few years ago is absolutely amazing. Great problem solving skills, very personable, creative, and full of school spirit. When they did the parade during COVID, my daughter was absolutely ecstatic to see the principal and all her teachers! The office staff is so helpful, I needed some help with my registration and they were so kind and patient with me. This last year she had Mrs. Ripley and she was so supported in her academics, would highly recommend. She's a tech queen, my daughter was really engaged in her schoolwork more than ever and this is all thanks to her. There was talk of shutting Sierra View down recently, and I really really hope that doesn't happen so more kids can have a great experience!

My son is about to graduate, and I can’t say enough good things about this school. My son is autistic and very smart and has flourished here with the acceptance and academic stimulation he has needed to do so. At every step they have listened and worked with us to develop a plan for my son’s academic and social success, and he is excited to go to college and excited about learning, and I feel strongly that this environment was a critical part of nurturing that.
