4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI was very hesitant about the high school when my kids were younger and worried they would not get as good of education as in other nearby districts. I was totally wrong ! From the academic standpoint, all the ÁP classes my kids took were great - prepared them well for the tests, were challenging and interesting. Just this year we have several Ivy- league and top- tear school acceptances - so my fear that SHS would not prepare the kids well academically was totally wrong.And I just can’t say enough about how wonderful, warm, caring and deducted the teachers and administrators of SHS are ! Both of my kids had absolutely the best academic and emotional experience here - I am so grateful to this school!Other Review2y ago - Somerville Middle School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe moved to Somerville from a much larger school district four years ago. My two oldest children attended and graduated from different schools, but my two youngest have had experiences in all three Somerville schools. Every middle school will have challenges, mainly due to the age group of the students. It is a difficult age to navigate, as I have four children myself. I feel that the work load has been fair and the teachers are doing a good job keeping my current middle school child engaged. Also, while the school does not offer as many extracurriculars and alternative elective classes, it provides enough. I have been very impressed with the music program so far, and it is really nice to see how many children play and instrument while also participating in sports. That was something I didn't see much of in my previous town. I think this allows for a well rounded student who can form friendships in various groups. I feel the reviews that have been negative stem from someone who has never attended another middle school, or a parent who has not had the experience of multiple schools. 5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur son attended VDV from kindergarten to fifth grade. All of the teachers gave him and the other students the love and the attention needed to make their education experience outstanding. The curriculum was exactly what our son needed, and if there were any adjustments required, the faculty made the required adjustments. Me. Reavy and Mrs. Hayes (when she was there) both provided exemplary care and service for the entire school.Parent Review4y ago
