3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy 9th grade daughter should NEVER have to experience "lock downs" and "police escorts to the bathroom". It even has it's own police force and a police dog on campus every day. This is high school, not prison! The students are taught to test and by simply completing homework and showing up for class students will land the on the A/B honor roll. We are working so hard to undue the factory mindset instilled across nearly all the classes here (show up, punch the time clock, follow the rules, and that is as good as it gets for you) that should have disappeared with the factories in the last century. Students are taught to simply "do" homework, but not to think. Students are taught to take tests (they even take 30 minutes out of the school schedule four time/week for the "Success" program that exists ONLY to raise state mandated test scores - look it up on the school website) and not critical thinking skills. My experience with the teachers in my daughter's classes are that they are caring people (this is why 2 stars and not 1), but they are working inside a VERY broken school that's primary objective is to prevent fighting and keep kids "safe" while school is in session. My daughter will not be returning next year. If she doesn't clear the wait-list at Burris, we will be moving her (and possibly the whole family) to a different school district.Parent Review10y ago5 Reviews - Wilson Middle School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have a 3rd grader here. There are 1 or 2 students in her class that cuss at the teacher, leave the classroom, etc., bringing the whole class to a stop until they're removed for the day, only to be there the next. No1 is able to learn while this is going on and the teacher gets overwhelmed and is short w/the rest of the class. Understandable, but it shouldn't keep happening. I also feel that the teacher let's the kids slide by on their grades. For example, allowing the kids to bring home unfinished class work and even pop quizzes! Communication w/parents (including for volunteering ) is non existent. Standing in front waiting 4 my daughter 2 come out, there are always other parents cussing, 1 day a guy cussed out the principal b/c he was told he had to get rid of the snake he had around his neck b/4 the students came out.Parent Review10y ago2 Reviews - Check out schools near 3601 W Cornbread Rd.

"Fire up downtown is a good one. There are events at the theater and several churches in the areas. There isn’t much else"

"The grounds and streets are beautifully maintained with a park-like atmosphere. People are friendly while still allowing you your privacy. Cats are allowed but no dogs except for documented service animals. "

"Presently, we live across from a rental and these people run in & out all day, everyday so it keeps our dogs barking a lot. It’s annoying. They should be moving soon!"

"Yes they walk they dog and the dogs be quiet at night . They all shoot to the fence, bark, and snap at each other, but they've never been properly introduced. If our dog hears them barking outside, he will pace and whine by the windows"

"I've lived in this neighborhood for 12 years it is a great area, yes there are some thief's , you'll get that anywhere, for the most part it is quiet and quaint. I'm looking to buy a home and if I can't find one in the country I'll try my best to stick to this neighborhood. It's in walking distance to Walmart, and Southside Middle school along with the other shops around Walmart, The Greenway trail is right behind the houses on Meeker Ave. Pet Friendly, Kids are starting to come back into the neighborhood , for a while it was mainly adults. I just love living in this area. "

"I have lived in this neighborhood for 42 years and most of my neighbors have also lived here for over 42 years. Neighbors are friendly and can borrow a cup of sugar or an egg. Great place to raise a family. You can leave your car doors unlocked. "

"The neighborhood that existed 30plus years ago was great. Every house had kids and great place to raise them. Since then renters have moved in and there went the neighborhood. Lawns are not well kept and no more kids outside playing. If my children were little they would have to stay close to home so I would know where they were. "

"Always see dog owners walking their dog. It’s a great place. With empty houses and more people renting homes the neighborhood is definitely going down hill. "

"It’s a college town, but as long as you’re not too prudey (which I don’t mean in a bad way) it is a great place to live. You probably will have the occasional outside noises but it’s safe and the college kids are overall very friendly and considerate of home owners in the area. "

"It’s a college town but is still a great town. I’ve never had problems with it being too loud unless you live by Greek row. People are very nice and I always feel safe. The shootings lately have all been from the same house on riverside and they are moving out, that house is up for rent now. "
