Piermont Village School should not exist. The school has seen a lot of turnover in it's teaching/professional staff in recent years and a significant portion of that turnover has been due to staff frustration. As others have written, parents are shunned from being involved from their childrens education-despite what claims their staff and parent handbook state. Only a couple of their current classroom teachers would I consider to be qualified to babysit kids-let alone teach them in a formal environment. Children are often scolded and yelled at in a manor that is not conducive of a safe learning environment nor is an action you would expect from a teaching professional. Children supervision during recess is a joke and the strict incident followup procedures that are detailed in their parent handbook seem to be their as boilerplate to satisfy state initiatives rather than anyone to actually follow. The few positive reviews here are from 2011 before a change in principal which seems to have been the start of it's rapid decline. Faced without a strong leader, the quality of the education received seems to have diminished significantly. At least one new teacher seems to be rushing through way too much material seemingly hoping for the students to stay caught up. It seems clear they likely are not used to teaching younger students, if they even have experience teaching any students previously. From the stats shown on greatschools.org for the academic side of the school-it seems clear that if these numbers are accurate, it's only due to tremendous efforts being put forth by frustrated parents teaching their children themselves and only a couple of select teaching staff from the school itself.Piermont is a wonderfully quaint town, but Piermont Village School seems to be spoiling the towns' charm when it comes to raising a family here. Piermont Village School is a quaint school that matches the town well, however the steady decline in the education and leadership gained from it will seemingly lead to its eventual demise. As a town resident, parent, and tax-payer, I feel saddened by the loss to this community.
