My kids have experienced bullying. The bigest issue is that the school fails, miserably, to admit there is a bully problem. Especially if the bullirs are related to staff! The other issue is that the school waited until February to say that the kids would be retained in their current grade levels. There is tutoring available to HS & JH, but there was nothing in place for elementary. Had the school had tutoring in place or even mentioned there was an issue ealier in the academiy year, we might have had a chance to work on this in a much better manner instead of deciding 2 1/2 months from the end of the year. This issue also screams retaliation on the stidents for me going to both the school board and the superintendant. Very suspicious, if you ask me, especially in light of the bully kids who are kids of teachers, never get in any trouble even if the IT dude catches bully type emails from those kids to their victims! Now the issue has expanded to the whole school, not just elementary as the principal is now heading the whole school as the over all principal! There should have been tutoring in place (look at this school scores on state tests and that, in itself screams that there is an academic need that is not being addressed!

My kids have done well in Del Norte High School. The teachers there really care about the students. The new principal is doing a good job, and I think all kids feel valued. As with any high school, athletes are at the top of the food chain, but I dont' see that reflected in the ideals of most of the teachers. I think that attitude comes more from the community. My child was not an athlete and was treated very well by teachers.
