Granville Elementary is an overhyped public school in a very small town. It is homogeneous, mostly upper class, white, and most people are from Granville. The school is typical of a public school, as it is obsessed with preparing students for tests. I mean they start preparing kindergartners for the third grade reading and math test. We moved to the area from another part of the country and we kept waiting to see this school deliver on all that people gush about…it has been very disappointing. The levels of violence tolerated by the teachers and staff is appalling. It seems to be nothing for kids to choke, punch, bite, or hit and then for the teachers and staff to shrug it off. There is this whole curriculum around portrait of a graduate that supposedly teaches kids character. Be very worried what they are actually teaching by how they treat students and families. They have cameras on the playground but no idea why because violent behavior and bullying are allowed to continue like they are everyday subjects. The school has a no PED policy and does not enforce it. Kids have cell phones on the bus, in class, and at recess. They tolerate stealing, lying, and name calling. Our impression is that people who think highly of this school just don’t know any better. They live in the Granville bubble of white, snobby people who have never been anywhere else and think they are so fantastic … wow, wait til they get out in the real world! Thank goodness there are other places to go because if this was all there was whew!

Granville High School provides an excellent college preparatory education. The courses are rigorous, especially the AP courses, but the school is small enough to give students the individual attention that they need. The school attracts excellent teachers because the student body is college driven. Graduates is recognized by excellent colleges, including ivy league schools, throughout the country. I know graduates who attend Harvard, Vanderbilt, University of Pennsylvania, Cornell, etc.... The students say that in their first year in college it is clear that Granville provided them with an education beyond what many of their peers received. Their first year tends to be a review - even for students that did not take the AP courses. I would highly recommend the school.

The teacher student ratio is adequate and the individual attention that the students receive is very good.

An excellent school using proven approaches to instruction. My child’s teachers have been Dedicated and skilled professionals. This is our second year in the district and I’ve gotten this impression of all 5 teachers to which my two boys have been assigned.
