I started my kids in this school after homeschooling. I was reluctant for them to attend this particular school because of its poor district and poor reputation. I was so pleasantly surprised. The teachers and leaders form a caring family environment. The class sizes aren’t too big. The teachers are all very genuinely friendly and welcoming. They greet you by name and They’re happy to see you when you walk through the door. They care about the community and help to build relationships through family activities. I couldn’t be more pleased that my kids attended this school.

Born and raised in Waterloo, Currently 21. Went to Kittrell, Orange, Hoover middle, West High, Hawkeye CC, and currently University of Northern Iowa. West High school will more than prepare your child for their future. They offer a excellent education in whatever your child may seek interest in, as well as superb sports teams. They as well have a detached Career Center building where your child can earn college credits and save money in the process. Teachers are amazing and your child will love it. As my classmates and i did. Police officers keep the peace, multiple counselors and Principals so your children will always be heard. AP classes and more available.

Issuesa arise becasue often teachers and administrators hands are tied because of district rules making it impossible to get kids who are disruptive and aren't ready for learning out of the classroom - alternative seats are very limited. The teachers and staff work very hard to make every student feel welcome and part of the school. Interesting to read parent complaints when very few parents are involved in anything other than extra-curricular activites. Yes - some teachers could challenge kids more but parents need to be ready to support learning at home.
