I have had children at Westview Elementary and Westview Primary, and the staff is amazing. The communication and support between parents and teachers is excellent. They even have a single app for all the Berkeley County schools, which allows me to communicate with teachers for both my high schooler and my elementary school child.Every week, the district sends a phone call to parents and guardians, keeping us informed about what’s happening and what’s upcoming in the schools—something I've never seen at other schools. They host many activities and events for children and families to participate in.The only downside is that, since COVID, parents are no longer allowed to assist in classrooms, even with background checks. Back when I lived in California, I was able to help out frequently. Unfortunately, things still haven’t returned to normal. Regardless, my children are doing great, and I wouldn’t want them to attend any other school.

My child started K-4 special education this year. We are very happy with how all the teachers know the names of all the kids. The teachers greet the students at the door when they get off the bus or when the parents walk them up. The office staff is always friendly and helpful. Always kept informed about how our child did in class every day. Highly recommend.

I am deeply concerned about the recent direction Westview Middle School is taking under its current leadership. There appears to be an overwhelming focus on boosting standardized test scores at the expense of meeting the individual needs and goals of students.Recently, students, including my own, have had their schedules changed without parent consent during the final nine weeks of school. My child, who is a straight A honors student, was removed from a class he was excelling in and that was directly connected to his goal of qualifying for a high school credit course next year. Instead, he was placed into a study lab focused on test preparation.What is most troubling is how this was handled. Parents were only sent an opt out form with no clear deadline, no explanation of the consequences of not opting out, and no transparency about how significantly schedules would be altered. This feels misleading and dismissive of both students’ academic progress and parents’ involvement.Decisions like this suggest that the school is prioritizing test performance metrics over student achievement, growth, and long term opportunities. Strong students who are already succeeding should not have their academic paths disrupted for the sake of improving school wide data.I believe in supporting schools and educators, but families deserve transparency, respect, and a commitment to each child’s individual success, not decisions that feel rushed, unclear, and driven by numbers rather than students.
