Description
It’s rare to find a log cabin with over 100 acres of timberland and over 2,000 feet of frontage on a great fishing lake in northern Wisconsin. Rarer still is finding a vintage log cabin updated to 2015 standards, restored and furnished in period detail, overlooking west-facing, sand-bottom shoreline and so private that wild elk make the property home.
Quality . . . Craftsmanship. . . Taste. . .
The 1.5 story Lodge contains about 1,500 sq. ft. of space with a comfortable great room and wood-burning stone fireplace, a new kitchen, a lake-view enclosed porch, two bedrooms, a full bath and a finished walkout basement with a tiled family room and plenty of built-in storage. The kitchen features an apron sink and a charming replica country cook stove. The owners took special pride to integrate artistic furnishings and lighting throughout this beautifully restored cabin.
The sellers kept much of the historic character of this north woods Lodge by incorporating original construction with thoughtfully selected new details. Ancient pine beams span the great room and compliment the refinished original maple floors throughout the main level. The open log stairway to the sleeping loft is finished with a hand-crafted log railing. The restored wooden clad windows are small-paned as they would have been when this cabin was built.
The cabin’s original garage was converted into a 4-season sleeping cottage. Narrow and long, with a high-peaked ceiling the adorable cottage interior is pine paneled and features a wood stove, baseboard heat, matching bunk beds, a dining area and new Marvin wood-clad windows that offer lake views.
Other Lodge features include a lakeside deck, a pleasant path along the shoreline and a winding gravel entry road leading in almost a mile from the road. This is the place to enjoy the serenity of lake living and the out of doors whether you choose to kayak or canoe, snowshoe or ski, bike or hike or just relax in an Adirondack chair on the porch.
Pine-covered Wildwood Point, the setting for Wildwood Lodge, is a small peninsula that reaches a hundred yards into White Bass Lake. There’s a little over 1/3 mile of shoreline that includes a shallow bay, boulder-lined lakeshore and a mix of hard and soft shoreline bottom. The deepest contours of this 113-acre lake (30 feet) are found just off the shoreline in front of the Lodge. White Bass Lake is a good fishing lake for large mouth bass, panfish and even musky. Blue gills, sunfish and crappies are abundant and are lots of fun to catch on featherlight gear or with a fly rod.
The forest that covers much of the 102 acres of land consists of red and white pines, birch and maple. There are spruce and balsam stands, open fields and some wetland areas. The land supports a wide variety of animal and birds and is in the center of the range for the Clam Lake Elk herd.
Cable and Hayward, WI, are nearby. Both towns have regional jet airports, restaurants and shopping. The area is nestled in the Chequamegon National Forest and is renowned for its outdoors recreation: World Class Nordic Ski and Mountain Bike Trails, hiking and backpacking trails, hunting and fishing as well as canoe and kayak opportunities.
An Oasis of Space. . . Nature. . . Land. . . and Sky. . . Wildwood Lodge will bring your family a richer, deeper North Woods experience.
Wildwood Lodge is the place you wish still existed. And guess what? It still does!
