Come live in a quiet uncrowded area, where the weather allows for outdoor activity all year. No Snow! This is a beautiful historic home, on the National Register of Historic places. Featured in 2019 in Alabama Heritage Magazine as one of the oldest homes in Alabama. It was built in 1817 in Erie, Alabama, the county seat. After the town was wiped out by Yellow Fever in the 1830's, this house, along with others, was disassembled and transported by ferry and teams of oxen to its current site, where it was reassembled in 1840. An antebellum addition was added in front of the original farmhouse. In 1850 the home was purchased by a doctor, who built a free standing office to the side. That was occupied by two doctors and and a dentist over a period of 50 years. All of the buildings are now joined. They occupy almost an acre lot, within easy walking distance to town. (two blocks) Short drive to Tuscaloosa, the University of Alabama, Demopolis, Livingston, Meridian. Wonderful quiet single family home or great weekend home for football lovers (thirty five miles from the University of Alabama), hunters, or fishermen. Completely restored in 2007; a large sunroom, utility room and half bath were added across the back. The restoration was overseen by the Alabama Historic Commission in accordance with the guidelines of the National Historic Commission in Washington, D.C. The house was operated as a B&B for 5 years after the restoration. It can accommodate as many as 4 bedrooms, or one of the bedrooms may be used as a library/office/ or formal living area. A beautiful enclosed "dog-trot" hall floored in 1840's hand made brick joins the structures from the three time periods. Four chimneys, 7 updated fireplaces. Two separate HVAC units.

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI graduated from Paramount High School which has now merged with GCHS. Now I can admit that there are some teachers who should never have been placed in certain classes to teach, but overall considering the resources they did their best with the limited resources. If you as a patent can do better it would be best to move your child to a better school district if you feel the inadequacy of your child's learning. Remember, it was once said it takes a village to raise a child. I came from this poor system & I have a Master's degree. It is what you put in what you can get out.
