"Close to the outdoors. Pleasant people. Nice winters for Alaska. Nice stores. Good schools. Good health care. "
  • Llcovert
"In the summer, late spring and early fall while the fish are plentiful the weather usually allows to play outside safely. However, the rest of the year, when the natural foods are scarce, it’s safer to play inside because we have the largest bear in the world and they prey on smaller animals. "
  • Alisha D.
"It’s 5 minutes to work by car or a 20 min walk. Everything is walking accessible. It’s particularly wonderful that I can walk out my door for a nature hike or just head downtown. "
  • Alisha D.
"You can walk most places, or take taxis. They also have a KATS public van that can be prescheduled. "
  • Alisha D.
"Don’t over structure your kids. That’s the beauty of living in a place like Kodiak. Wild spaces to explore. "
  • darlene
"The fishing here in Kodiak is amazing. We have road fishing in 10 rivers and streams for all 5 salmon species, dollies and trout and steelhead. There is ocean fishing for halibut, King and Silver salmon, ling cod, rock fish and Pacific gray cod, with short travel times. Hiking is great all along the road system, Kodiak is the Home Port to the largest US fishing fleet. There is Bear Viewing, kayaking, beach combing, wildlife viewing, great schools, some really fantastic restaurants, and a community that is wonderful, caring and diverse. People, business, Local, State and US government believe in working on issues that effect our community. Great public spirit. Services for Seniors and Senior living and a wonderful hospital run by Providence. Excellent medical clinics and dental service. Oh, our HS Girls "Lady Bears" Basket Ball team were State Champions this year with no losses!!!! Got to love those Bears."

"I live in this neighborhood. One block from Baranoff Park including tennis court, ice skating rink, football field, baseball field, track and playground. Two blocks from an elementary school, the Middle School and High School (which houses the Auditorium for community events). Four blocks from downtown Kodiak, two blocks from the hospital. 4 miles from some of the best dog walking trails on the island. 1 mile from the local grocery store. "

"Woodland Drive is the ideal spot because the lot sizes cannot be less than 20,000 sq. ft., it is in the North Star School District, is close to both St. Mary's Catholic School and the Kodiak Christian School, is on a dead-end, so there's no through traffic, has several public access points to the beach and trails, is close to Mill Bay Coffee, is the safest neighborhood, is 5 minutes from shopping and restaurants, and has the most beautiful houses on Kodiak Island.
