This school is a breeding ground for underachievers. Students vape in the bathrooms between every class and the school refuses to do anything about it. School spirit is subpar. Several staff members lack the ability to do their jobs properly. This school’s community is extremely racist and ignorant. The school focuses entirely on sports rather than academics. The “principal” and “vice principal” have a bias towards student athletes, even when illegal activities occur. Those student athletes are able to get away with things other non-athlete students would not. The most recent renovation failed to actually renovate this decrepit building. The renovation was projected to be complete within a year yet it took about three full years to complete. Despite renovations, ceilings in classroom still leak, and bathrooms are constantly “out of order.” The food quality is abysmal. There was mold in the applesauce, a worm was found in a salad, food is packed in sealed plastic bags which in turn makes the food mushy and unpleasantly moist. The school is extremely understaffed. Often times students are left in classrooms without instruction but still expected to complete assignments. The arts department, along with other extracurriculars that do not involve sports, is horribly neglected by the school. It is left up to the boosters to fund events and transportation. While the band is required to attend football games, the boosters pay for the bus ride to away games, even though it’s a school event. Students in these extracurriculars are expected to fundraise on their own without any additional support from the school. When the scholastic bowl team qualified to compete nationally, the school refused to fund the trip, and the team had to rely on local donations. Not to mention, the discriminatory behavior toward male sports and female sports is appalling. While the football and boys’ basketball teams receive new uniforms and equipment, the cheerleaders, volleyball, and girls’ basketball teams are not treated the same. Additionally, even though the school’s population is comparable to other schools in the area, George Wythe is one of the few schools that does not offer Advanced Placement classes to students, and the school wonders why students are indifferent to their grades is disappointing that students are not offered academically resourceful or rigorous classes. Students from George Wythe are at a huge advantage compared to students from other schools in the area.

We love Spiller Elementary! My little one is in the first grade and has 2 wonderful teachers, kind and caring staff members and a well developed curriculum! I love how they work on character building and teaching the students to be kind to others! GO Spiller!

It is a school that hires teachers that hires teachers that makes it seem like it's cool to be mean to young kids the guidance counselor got compliments from the female PE teacher for being rude and the same Guidance counselor isn't good at making school a safe space for kids with anxiety and PTSD because I don't think you understand the things that she did triggered my child so bad she came off of the bus crying and it was completely unacceptable I do not recommend this school for mentally ill children because they just flick off the mentally ill students not even trying to calm them down I think its a outdated school for a new type of generation
