5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy concern is the bullying, especially by other students as well as unqualified teachers and aides who are not equipped to properly handle the special needs student.I served as a school crossing guard for eight years after I retired, and it was always the special needs child that was made fun of, and bullied. Schools need to protect these special students. It can't happen a minute too soon.Wilma LewisI hope this is at the top of the agenda.Other Review10y ago3 Reviews - Mountain View Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son had just graduated from this lovely school, in the two years he was there, for the 4th and 5th grades, he had two wonderful teachers who were his favorite teachers of all times, he learned new stuff fast, and he was making lots of friends as soon as he started school. There were many activities, events, and field trips that kept his active mind interested, and I especially love how many family events and award ceremonies the school held to make the ohanas feel welcomed! The principal remembered everyone's name and the teachers seemed happy to be there.I was surprised to see the rating for the school isn't so high, considering how many schools my kids have been to (due to moving) and this is both me and my son's favorite school!Parent Review1y ago4 Reviews - Anuenue School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWhile I am grateful to have graduated from high school, I can't say I'm proud to have graduated from this one. My experience at Keaau High involved frequent exposure to schoolyard brawls, administrative apathy, and laughable courses.I took a woodworks class in which the teacher was so lenient that we spent most of the time cleaning the woodshop, and I learned nothing from that class. I once got harassed by that class' students so severely that I transferred to an art class.I remember how defiant students smeared the bathroom walls with graffiti, and I can't recall the school ever removing the unsightly "art." Not to mention that the school cranked the AC to an intensely high level.I liked a few teachers at that school, a couple of whom I still contact from time to time. But most teachers at the time were either too ineffective or too indifferent for me to remember fondly.Primarily, I felt like Keaau High didn't challenge its students enough and didn't do enough to allow students to be more pro-social.Given that my experience was back in the 00s, a lot has likely changed. I sure hope so, because I wouldn't want a child going to that school if it is still anything like it was back then!Parent Review3y ago5 Reviews - Ke Kula O Ehunuikaimalino

"A lot of crackheads around, keep your doors locked at night and all valuables locked up. Make sure your vehicle are secure with either alarm or kill switch because you might wake up with your vehicle gone."

"Please keep an eye on your children, especially when it comes to dogs (not kept on a leash) & traffic (the speed limit is 35mph on the main road & 25mph is neighborhoods, but some residents go much faster)!!"

"My neighborhood has terrible commute traffic to town. The highway is only 2 lanes & there is only one way in & out. Needless to say traffic during regular commute hours for school & work can get gnarly. "

"Great neighborhood to walk your dog and get daily exercise, on the other hand of course there will be other dogs barking and so on."

"To the town of Pahoa it’s only about nine minutes. For a commute to Hilo it’s closer to 35. Most of the things that we need are within a 10 minute drive. But this allows for quiet neighborhoods and fairly dark skies at night for stargazing. Traffic is usually light except when there is construction. Even when is there is it’s usually only a momentary delay. "

"The neighborhood in general is very excepting of dogs and most people have them. Most people observe leash laws and keep their dogs in check. Dog’s seem to represent a measure of security for the house owner. There are no dog parks per se in this area but plenty of quiet streets to walk your dog on. "

"Quiet most times with the occasional argument and police presence. Lock your doors and beware of randomly nice people that come visiting you just to say hello. This is not that kind of neighborhood. "

"The title says it all; when you are in Hawaii, life is just better! The area is beautiful, the people are friendly, and the weather is to die for, if you are lucky enough to visit then you are lucky enough! With an area of 4,028 square miles, the Hawaii Island is not just big; it is still growing; because Kilauea is the world's most active and prolific volcano. Hawaiian Beaches located just 3 short miles from Pahoa Town, and 20 miles south of Hilo Town (Hilo International Airport). Pahoa is one of the sunniest spots on the east side of the Big Island. The beautiful Ahalanui Hot Ponds are approximately 20 minutes away, and Volcanoes National Park is approximately 60 minutes away. "
