6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageHaving lived in Norton my entire life and graduating from Norton, I once held those at Norton in very high regard. The relationships I formed while at Norton made me want to become a teacher and coach. After I earned my degree, I fell on some hard times in my personal life and I had to step away from my education career. Now, 10 years after earning my teaching degree, I worked hard to overcome my personal obstacles and clean up my act, and I'm finally once again pursuing a teaching and coaching career. Last school year, I subbed and coached. This past summer, I desperately tried to get a full-time position somewhere, including Norton. I applied to 3 different openings at Norton and they never gave me the chance to even interview. I even reached out to the principal and vice principal, both of whom are former teachers of mine. They simply told me to go through the online application process, which I did--multiple times. They also said they have the privilege of being able to choose "the best of the best" when it comes to their teachers. I have 5 years of experience subbing and coaching, and yet, for some reason the administration at Norton wouldn't as much as grant me an interview. That being said, I can't help but think that they are judging me and discriminating against me because of my struggles in my past. I'm a different man than I was 5, 10, 15 years ago. How can they even know the type of person I am TODAY if they won't give me a chance to interview? I felt very let down and disappointed in those in charge at Norton, my alma mater. People that were a huge part of my life growing up, people that influenced me to become an educator, and now, people that, in my mind, have turned their backs on me.
