  • Trulia User
"Less than 15 minutes to work in downtown Austin. Parts of the drive are very pretty, and there’s no need to use freeway, just surface roads. "
  • Trulia User
"Barton Hills is attractive, close to downtown, and quiet. It’s not walkable so much as full of walkers. "
  • Trulia User
"Safe streets with little traffic. Neighborhood is very supportive of families with young children. One of the best public elementary schools. "
  • Trulia User
"Close to downtown with a suburban feel once you’re off South Lamar. Great elementary school, interesting mix of homes, and a friendly community of people. "
  • Trulia User
"Laid back, green, and full of really friendly people and families. The local elementary school is fantastic."
  • Meganroverbay
"Great neighborhood for dogs, as long as you pick up poop! We have several great greenbelt entrances that give access to the Barton Creek Greenbelt trail system. "
  • Rebecca E.
"Love Barton hills, it’s the best place to live in Austin. Close enough and still near everything but very private and quiet neighborhood "
  • Daniel
"Good sized backyards, close to the greenbelt, lots of other dogs to meet, close to a school with a park"
  • Rebecca E.
"Great place to live, close to downtown but not too close. 10/10 would recommend! Safe place, many people outside walking"
  • Annalisa
"The local elementary school is great. It is a very nice community with a lot of nice families and amazing green space. "
  • Native Austinite
"Not what it used to be, but then again, nor is Austin. Sometimes rowdy homelessness, people let their dogs poop all over greenbelt, litter and play loud music and don’t respect the area like it used to be respected. "
  • Miguel R.
"Safe and nice. Really great location and square footage for the price. If rent didn’t go up every year, I’d stay a few more years."
  • Shannonb
"Green Belt Entrance, Taco Deli, Thoms Grocery, close to a few high tech companies, walking distance to Zimmerman Park. "
  • Gaponte
"Beautiful, integrated with nature, but still close to everything. Greenbelt and Barton Springs pool are a plus."
  • Oznovt
"One of the best neighborhoods in which to live. Fantastic location to everything Austin has to offer."
  • Gaponte
"Close to Lamar and downtown, but also quiet and wooded. Very relaxing, great access to the greenbelt. Amazing for families"
  • Monica M.
"Barton Hills is extremely dog friendly. Most all dog owners pick up their dog's waste. Dogs are walked on leashes. There are sidewalks, so you feel protected from traffic."
  • Paige B.
"Dog owners let their dogs run off leash at the park, so it is not safe. Dog owners will get pretty aggressive when you ask them to control their dogs. I have called 911 when my dog and I were attacked and bit by a loose dog, but nothing really happened as far as enforcement. Walking anywhere other than the park is relatively safe."
  • Paige B.
"You've got to watch out for pedestrians and bikes. It is pretty easy to get in and out with proximity to Lamar."
  • Monica M.
"The elementary schools are exceptional. The area is progressive. Real estate values continue to nearly double over the last 10 years. The neighborhood is people friendly, dog friendly, and has diverse housing."
  • Jon G.
"It's close to Zilker Park, and there are tons of other cool things to do in the area."
  • Paige B.
"Barton Hills still has some of the 'keep Austin weird' charm. We have our own neighborhood Frisbee golf course and Purple Martin sanctuary. Most people have lived in the neighborhood for years, but there are also many new houses due to teardowns."
  • Prefernotto H.
"There are safe places to walk your dog. Just don't leave small dogs out at night with the coyotes"
  • Steven K.
"Quick and easy. It's great for commuting to downtown, North Austin, Bee Caves Road, South Austin, and the airport."
  • Prefernotto H.
"Traffic is okay when you get close to home, but to get to work downtown is a nightmare every day."
  • Prefernotto H.
"Barton Hills has less urban sprawl and better zoning than many other areas of Austin and good Hill Country views."
  • Steven K.
"Its proximity to Zilker Park events make ACLfest, the kite fair, and the trail of lights all local events."
  • Steven K.
"There are lots of involved parents and a good community elementary school."
  • Tracy W.
"Walk to Taco Deli, the Barton Creek Greenbelt, Zilker Park and all of the restaurants on Barton Springs Road. Great for bike riding, dog walking, walking to ACL Fest and more! Quiet, private gated community with an awesome pool. "
  • Markfreeborn
"Have lived in South Austin since 2005, and in Barton Hills since Spring of 2012. This is a beautiful, well kept neighborhood. Many homes have gone through extensive renovation and the area is so desirable that new homes are being constructed."
