About this House

Welcome to the Chestnut Grove Farm located on 53 majestic acres. This farm house was constructed in 1840 and now contains 5 bedrooms and 3 full baths. The restoration of this home was done with love by its current owners. Ever present is the warmth and charm typical of a home of this era. Original wide plank oak and yellow pine flooring, exposed hand honed beams throughout and a built-in breakfront constructed by its original owner will take you back to simpler times. Some of the extensive upgrades were 400 amp service, forced air heat and air conditioning, septic/well, and newer windows. Two fireplaces as well as a wood/coal stove in the kitchen will take the chill out of cold nights and add to the ambiance. As far as outdoor space there is plenty of room for down time on one of the two covered porches. You even have the option of having your morning coffee in the screened in porch off the kitchen. Perfectly located, at the end of a town maintained road, these sprawling 53 acres consist of flat pastures, barns, a pond, and flowing stream with a watering hole. The property extends up and over the mountain pictured in many of the photographs. Take the private road next to the house on foot, horse, ATV/snowmobile or even in a 4x4 and it will lead you to the top of the mountain where you will find many flat lots. These lots are nestled in nature with sweeping views, and an abundance of wildlife. This private road also connects to High Falls Rd providing an alternate route of ingress and egress to this homestead. The activities possible at this property really are abundant. Zoned as agricultural, it's owner believes it can also be used as an entertainment venue by obtaining a special use permit. Its expansive barn was not only used to milk cows at one time, but has hosted many country gatherings over its history. Evidence of this remains can be seen by the disco ball and lights that are still present in the barn. To the rear of the home is a one bedroom apartment with its own private deck that is currently being used as an Airbnb. The apartment has a full kitchen, full bath and its own washer and dryer. This property is ready for your outdoor adventures, entertaining, animals or crops.

"bad neighborhood for dogs. major high way, lots of speeding and dead animals. also wild animals that are big enough to kill house cats."
  • Melissa S.
"There are a lot of children in the area. Parents should be aware of drivers in the area, they are not the safest drivers unfortunately, they can be careless and reckless! It is a very nice area to live in! "
  • Margarita Asiain
"It's quiet, unassuming, not pretentious. Saugerties has a pretty village with restaurants, shops and old movie theatre, and spreads out so much of it is quite rural, which I love."
  • Tom
"Its a quiet area. It lies somewhere happily between seclusion and convenience. A 5-10 minute drive to downtown Woodstock and Saugerties and all that entails. A 5-10 minute drive to miles upon miles of hiking and backpacking trails. Some of which connect to and stretch for the eastern coast of the US, from Vermont to Georgia. A 30 minute drive to multiple micro cities, ski resorts and villages and a 60 minute drive to Albany and Newburgh which each have their own perfectly sized airports. I think the area is the perfect place to live when you don't want to deal with the stresses of the modern world but still want the convenience of it."
  • Jason K.
"The sawyer car show is absolutely amazing. I enjoy the Christmas in the village as well, the Siracusano family really contributes to the community and I am honored to be a part of it. Saugerties in general is just a great place to relax on the town and enjoy everything that it has to offer. "
  • Ajrmasonry
"There are many families here and many great parks and sporting events throughout the summer and most of the year"
  • Deborahabarry
"5 miles to major grocery store. Many local shops in the village 7 miles to mall shopping in Kingston Thruway exit right there"

"I've lived here my whole life and it's an ok town to live and raise kids but expensive to live here "
  • Samantha c.
"Calm streets, nice scenery and a million hiking trails for long walks. Good local vets and not far from Woodstock Dog Park. "

"It's a beautiful little town, close to the city, and has everything. village swimming, designer stores, horses, charm."
