I wanted to share my personal experience with this elementary school. Unfortunately, I did not feel there was enough effort, patience, or positive engagement in helping my five-year-old successfully transition into a new school environment and structured schedule.As a parent, I understand that children can have behavioral challenges and need redirection, especially when adjusting to something new. However, most of the communication I received focused on what my child was doing wrong and the possibility of suspension rather than working together on solutions to help him improve. What concerned me most was the lack of positive feedback. Even on difficult days, I believe every child has something positive that can be recognized and encouraged.I also cannot say whether race played a role in our experience, but as the parent of a child of color, the experience did leave me with concerns about whether my child was being given the same patience, understanding, and opportunity to grow that every five-year-old deserves.At this age, children are still learning how to regulate their emotions, follow routines, communicate, and adjust to new expectations. I wanted a school that would acknowledge the challenges while also recognizing my child’s strengths and working with us on a constructive improvement plan—not make him feel as though he was simply a problem that needed to “get it together” or face suspension.Ultimately, I made the decision to remove my child from the school because I did not want repeated negative messaging to shape how he sees himself at such a young age. My child deserves an educational environment that holds him accountable while also encouraging him, building his confidence, and helping him become the best version of himself.This review reflects my personal experience, and I sincerely hope the school considers taking a more balanced, supportive, and solution-focused approach with young children who may need additional help adjusting.
