About this House

Full of light and expansive space, this remarkable design will charm and delight ? especially for the mid-century purist. This authentic contemporary home was designed by Ian M. Horne in 1959 and incorporates the best of mid-century modern. Profoundly influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright , the house is built on the rise to South Mountain Reservation and has a marvelous relationship to its setting on a wooded cul-de-sac. The home has been carefully cared for thru the years maintaining the design integrity. The house clearly expresses Wright?s Usonian theory and features cathedral ceilings with exposed beams, mahogany paneled walls and elegant built-in cabinets and shelves. New bamboo floors extend through the entry, dining room, living room and den. A massive, double-sided stone fireplace provides a focal point for this magnificent room. A dramatic wall of windows extends across the front of the house bringing nature indoors. Almost prescient in its passive solar design, the windows capture the winter sun, while overhanging eaves offer shade in the summer. Transoms provide excellent ventilation. A redwood deck on the front extends almost the entire length of the house. The kitchen features custom mahogany cabinets and is designed with the cook in mind. There is ample counter space, cabinets that open on both sides providing easy set up for entertaining and a six burner cooktop for preparation. A sliding door to the deck provides easy access for outdoor grilling. This 10 room home also includes a master bedroom with bath and a large walk-in closet. There are two other bedrooms, an office and two more full baths, as well as a wonderful family room with the third stone fireplace. The ground level entry has a polished slate floor and features the perfect articulated staircase. A laundry room/kitchenette combination offers additional options. The house also has two large storerooms and an attic. A secluded fieldstone patio is crowned with a wisteria covered pergola. Over a pe

"Great commute lots of eateries. Could get a bit backed up because of school drop offs in the morning and usually in the afternoon around 3 o'clock because the school is right on the main road. But it's like that near any school. Millburn is a great town. "

"Millburn HS was ranked #1 by NJ Monthly Magazine in their 2008 biannual listing of schools in NJ; the school is also nationally ranked. 38% of graduating seniors attend Ivy League schools. The neighborhood is a short walk to the train, parks, elementary school, downtown shops and restaurants and more. Town amenities include tennis courts, basketball courts, fitness trails, a remodeled pool complex (the envy of neighboring towns), par-3 course, numerous baseball/softball diamonds and more. South Mountain Reservation is located just behind the public library and features 10+ miles of walking/hiking/jogging trails, ponds, creeks and great hills for sledding. The Short Hills Mall is also located in town limits and provides a nice tax base that lowers our property taxes relative to nearby towns. The train ride to NY Penn Station is approximately 35 minutes during rush-hour."
  • Anjali
"Large corner property that overlooks a park/playground. Absolutely beautiful property in an A+ town. Ideal for a family with school age children."
