All my children have gone to Hillsboro, and the ones in college now were more than prepared to thrive in college. My kids' teachers have gone above and beyond, and the student body is diverse, interesting, and welcoming. The school has so many ways that kids can connect and get involved. Room for improvement in how admin engages parents and families - the principal needs to be more accessible. I have found teachers and assistant principals to be very accessible and helpful.

Julia Green is a sweet school but best suited for kids who completely conform and families who are looking for a free private school experience.The kindergarten through 2nd grade experience is great.There are some teachers who excel and pour into kids. Others, especially 4th grade teachers, are combative and make it clear to kids whom they do not like. Teachers need better training on supporting kids' social emotional needs and administration needs better accountability enforcing expectations on teachers.The social emotional support is extremely low, and the principal is focused on data and keeping the reputation of JG as a feeder to private schools. If you are planning to stay in MNPS for middle, a heads up that more than 1/2 of the 4th graders leave before 5th grade. And there is a lot of discussion amongst kids about who's taking the private school testing, going to shadow days, etc.

Highly recommend JT Moore. Strong leadership from the principal sets the tone for positive learning environment. Very good communication with parents. Excellent opportunities for arts and athletics.
