I have three kids in this school. All teachers have been warm and genuinely care about their students. One of my sons was referred by his teacher to meet with the school counselor due to his emotional and social skills. Teachers are very willing to work with parents to improve any issues related to my child wellbeing. In general, communications regarding student progress and learning between teachers and parents are almost daily. You know exactly what is happening in the school. The principal, Ms Gaboury, is amazing. She remembers all my kids’ names and their classrooms every time I walked into her office. During covid, all classrooms were relocated outdoor. From this new classroom setting (canopy, partitions, seat arrangements, etc), you can tell immediately how thoughtful and caring the planning staff are.

If I have to be honest, I'm going to be straight with you: This school sucks. It's not an issue with the facilities or an issue with the students, it's an issue with the teachers and staff. This is my second year attending Tierra Linda, and I'm soon to be going into my 3rd year. In 6th grade, I thought the school was great, but my opinion has quickly turned around. Last year, most of the teachers were amazing and everyone was very inclusive towards me, so my experience was nice. This year however, the teachers are genuinely beyond terrible. The english teacher is rude, mean, and the most insufferable woman I have ever met in my entire life. The history teacher is biased beyond explanation. She doesn't like me just because at the beginning of the year I happened to be very talkative. Over the months, the teacher constantly telling me off kind of encouraged me to stop talking as much in a way? It's hard to explain, but the environment is just not very welcoming. The students are generally a good bunch, but there's occasionally drama here and there. My experience with drama was terrible at this school. I remember in 6th grade I went to the school counselor to talk to her about some concerning things my friend at the time had told me. Never again will I ever reach out for help at school if it's not necessary. She was unhelpful, discouraging, and seemed to only be there for the drama. If you are stressed or anxious at this school, do NOT, and I mean do NOT reach out to any of the staff unless you really trust the teachers there. Other than the other teachers, the math programs and english programs are pretty nice. The 6th grade compacted teacher was unhelpful, but the 7th grade teachers are great for algebra. I've never had an experience with the english programs, so the only thing I know about them is that if you are struggling with english, they'll take you out of history and put you into a study skills class to catch up. That's about it. Send your kids somewhere else.

I have recently had three kids graduate in 2024 and 2023.Some teachers are simply exceptional, while others are lacking strategies for teaching.So it can be a mixed bag depending on the teacher you get.The chemistry class was basically videos and minimal learning. The physics class my kids had was excellent. Same for the stats class, excellent. If your child plays an instrument, this is a great place for them to hone their skills. However, I was disappointed in English requirements for my kids.Two out of three of my kids went on to public colleges in California. The physics and stats they learned were excellent fundamentals for their college courses.Overall, I would give Carlmont 3.9 score out of 5.Parents need to be involved, it easy for kids to get lost in high school.
