About this House

What's unique:Spacious finished third floorSubstantial millworkFourteen marvin replacement windowsGenerous kitchenOwned solarOff-street parking
This home presents a fantastic opportunity to own a beautifully updated 1907 Queen Anne Victorian in central Berkeley close to Downtown, BART, UC Berkeley, Berkeley Bowl, neighborhood shops, restaurants, and everyday amenities. Owned by the same family since 1983, this 3-bedroom, 1-bath home combines classic period character with an exceptional record of thoughtful maintenance and improvements spanning more than four decades. The gracious floor plan unfolds across three finished levels. The main floor offers inviting living and dining rooms and a generous kitchen, while two bedrooms and a full bath occupy the second floor. Above, a spacious finished third floor extends across the full footprint of the house, creating a wonderfully flexible retreat for a primary bedroom, home office, studio, or family room. Period details bring warmth and personality throughout, including hardwood floors refinished in 2026, substantial millwork, stained-glass windows, and a working vintage Tappan gas range. Fourteen Marvin replacement windows complement the original architecture while bringing updated performance and comfort. The home has also benefited from significant investment in its structure, exterior, and energy systems. Improvements include permitted seismic retrofits completed in 2005 and 2015, a new roof in 2022, fiber cement siding and exterior paint in 2023, owned solar, Tesla Powerwall battery backup, a Level 2 EV charger, and a hybrid heat pump water heater installed in 2026. French doors from the dining room open to a private side deck rebuilt in 2023 with integrated lighting and privacy walls. Wide steps lead to a flagstone patio and Italianate concrete fountain, creating an intimate outdoor setting for dining and relaxing. Thoughtful hardscaping, drainage, eight-foot fencing, concealed refuse storage, and off-street parking make the compact lot exceptionally functional and easy to maintain. With its architectural character, extensively updated infrastructure, flexible three-level floor plan, private outdoor space, off-street parking, and exceptional central Berkeley location, 2343 Roosevelt Avenue is a rare opportunity to own a beautifully maintained Queen Anne Victorian that pairs the craftsmanship and character of 1907 with the thoughtful improvements of a home cared for across generations. • Shamar a. J. M.
"South Berkeley is a transitioning neighborhood as most places around America there is gentrification going on. Berkeley overall is a good place to live with good schools"
  • Joiyao
"I used to live here and the neighborhood is nice to live and work in. They are really cleaning things up "
  • walzer
"Walk to entertainment, supermarket and transportation. Includes detached 500 sq ft. art studio"
  • Rie Y.
"This is a fairly quiet street, with some foot and car traffic since it connects to Sacramento Street and University Ave. But it's much more neighborhood-oriented than it seems, and close to daycare/dog park/cafe/bakery."
  • mysolosusan
"I live almost on the corner of Bancroft and Roosevelt, and have lived in central Berkeley for two straight decades now. It's a great neighborhood - I see there's supposed to be a bit higher crime not far from here, but in all these years I've seen only one crime - a mugging wherein a Berkeley high graduate about 19 years old, tried to steal an earbud for a cell phone from a high school girl. He didn't get the earbud and the police caught him and a couple others with the minimum of fuss. That's it, although I've heard of a couple other small crimes more toward university. To live here is to feel very safe, and really be in walking distance to UC, and all kinds of shops, restaurants and so on. The little tot parks are real nice, especially the one on Roosevelt, and walking is very enjoyable due to all the lovely landscaping done in this area around private homes. Neighbors are great. I love living here except for having to get a parking permit - which is cheap and easy to do really."
