My experience with Island Elementary was horrible. I was a student through 2014-2022. The school staff most definitely played favorites. Only a few collection of teachers were sweet to any and everyone. Besides those, the Aids and Teachers would dismiss those of students who weren’t related to teachers, were people of color, and those who did not have much money. They would pick on any hispanics/blacks, and ignore any kind of bullying. There were so many incidents of children transferring out of Island because the Principal and Teachers would turn a blind eye to those being picked on. There was many occasions where white girls could wear whatever they wanted(leggings, crop-tops, v-necks, and etc), which were all against dress code at the time, yet once one of the non popular girls decided to wear that they would be sent home in violation within 5 minutes of stepping onto campus. They don’t care about mental health. There was majority of students who would have panic attacks or refuse to go to class because school staff would sit there and do nothing about the constant harassment, racism, and bullying. The Teachers don’t pay attention to the education of non popular students, they favorite those who are white. I only had three good years with Island the rest were completely trash. Once in my eighth year I had a teacher come up to me asking if I would be going to the Graduation Dance. It was none of her business wether I was attending or not yet she still had the nerve to ask. When I answered no she scoffed and said “Why? Is It because of your grades?”. She had said in a very rude tone and in front of many other students. She was obviously trying to humiliate me yet didn’t bother to ask any of the other students around me If they were attending. She specifically targeted me. Overall Island Elementary needs to work on who they hire. If your child has any mental or physical illness, do not send them here. They won’t care for them.
