Very heavy on outdated practices like "behavior charts" (which have been proven to be harmful long term) and leading by fear. Unfortunately these practices have all been shown to lead to slower learning, childhood depression, bullying amongst peers, and creating a hostile environment in which children feel unsafe. We witnessed all of these things firsthand from the teacher level, all the way through the principal. If you're looking for an modern educated staff who understands updated childhood development practices? This is not the school for you.

My child went to this school for K-2. It was an excellent school with high expectations for student achievement. The teachers my child had were experienced and professional. We had 2 conferences a year and the teachers explained how my child was doing in school and backed it up with work samples. They set goals and worked to meet them. My child never had any problems with other kids. School was fun but they never took the focus off of learning. If you send your child to school here, they will learn how to read, write and do math and they will learn a lot of history and science as well. They do a really great job at this school.

I have had four children go through the SCSD in the last 20 years. I found every child to have a different experience which has caused me to have a different view at times. Has everything been perfect? No. Have their been "issues"? Sure. However, on a whole, whenever I have needed support as a parent or for my student the staff is ALWAYS there! I love the small town, take care of each other, know your students feel! I believe we are on an upward trend starting with a new superintendent that has lived in this community for years and many new staff members committed to making the SCSD even better!
